The same people who complain about the light moderation on a free website that you operate at a loss will probably complain that now you can’t even keep the website cert current.

Yet they criticize you when you complain about a (usually) legitimate issue with a product or service you pay for.

You'll recall he said he won't sell, and IIRC I chimed in to the effect that everything is for sale if the price is right.

You're a rich guy with an agenda, so why not urge him to sell it to you?

I'm curious what slaps plan would be. This place is so not what his father wanted but on the other hand there are actually a significant number of real deal serious pro-gamblers. Slap seems like a pretty grounded guy though. If he axes much there won't be much to draw others. So I was wondering

I can't speak for what Alan wanted after 2016, but I am running it very similar to how I observed him operating this place from 2013-2016.

I know you joined in 2019, but here's the history of this forum:

2010: Alan started it (with help from his son Slapinfunk), as alanbestbuys.com. It was intended to be a forum to support and promote Alan's LA-area consumer TV show. However, it also had a "Las Vegas" section, due to Alan's love of casinos and gambling. The Vegas section was what caught on, as various advantage players found their way here, and adopted the forum as an alternative to places like Wizard of Vegas. Alan rarely banned people, rarely deleted messages, and pretty much let everything stand as-is. He ran the forum in a very free speech fashion.

March 2013: I showed up. I did not know Alan, though I had seen him on Los Angeles TV at times over the years. I was just a regular user here, not an admin of any kind.

October 2013: The forum was having all kinds of technical problems. It was being spammed to death, and the outgoing email wasn't working, due to the forum service provider being blocked by most incoming email servers. I offered to Alan to run the forum on my PokerFraudAlert server, and to manage it from a technical standpoint. I promised to fix the email issue and stop the spam problem. He agreed. In return, he sent me a very small amount of money every 3 months, which I assume was roughly equivalent to what he was paying his forum hosting service. I did not make any admin decisions. I was just the tech guy and had the forum operating on my server.

February 2016: Alan did not want to run the forum any longer, and told me to shut the whole thing down. I didn't want to do this, and offered for Alan to transfer it to me. We announced it as a sale, but in reality he just gave it to me for free. Alan became a regular user at this point, and was not an admin of any kind. He also required that I change the domain name for the forum, and leave alanbestbuys.com to operate as a domain for his business. I did this, and invented the name "Vegas Casino Talk" within minutes.

That's the way it has stood since then.

I have tried to be respectful to Alan as the original founder of this place, even once he was a regular user after Feb 2016. I have also placed a permanent RIP banner at the top since he passed away in 2022.

Anyway, I've tried to keep the look and feel of the forum, including the free speech atmosphere, similar to how Alan ran it. That's why the users came, so that's how I have tried to keep it.

Alan probably started this forum about the time his former "go to" forums went dark.

I think that I first ran across him on gambling forums sometime around or shortly before Y2K; at that time he posted on a usenet forum, alt.something or other, then he went to the much-maligned yet now much-missed Gamblers Glen.
