Thread: Review: "PizzaCake" in Harrah's Las Vegas

  1. #1
PizzaCake is a weird shop located in Harrah's Las Vegas, owned by celebrity chef Buddy Valastro.

It's a by-the-slice pizza place, with a vending machine outside with refrigerated (and appetizing looking) cake slices.

The pizza is really good. It's expensive (about $9 per slice), but very good.

The cake... is the opposite. It's awful and inedible. And it's almost $10 after tax.

The cake was so bad that, after taking it to my room and tossing it, I came back the next day to complain. We settled on a free slice of pizza as compensation (this was offered by the manager).

They do not take RCs, as they are not Caesars owned.

    That is all.

Agree the cake is horrible. It’s made in a factory somewhere filled with chemicals so it lasts for weeks. Also deceptive packaging that makes it look bigger. The machines are in airports all over the country now.

But I’ll also disagree on the pizza, it mediocre at best. Maybe for the strip it’s “ok” but like Secret Pizza it’s nothing special. Shocked you liked it, not shocked you complained about the cake. Dude you should make a YouTube series of you HEBing these places for $10 a pop.

So many good pizza places in Vegas like Pizza Rock, Evil Pie, Yukon, Naked City and more to say Buddy’s is “good” pizza.

There have been a LOT of complaints about the cakes from Carlo's Bake Shop. :/ My local Casino HAD a Carlo's Bake Shop vending machine and while the cakes LOOKED delicious, I couldn't justify spending roughly $11 on a single cake slice. Publix sells single cake slices for about $4.30. Also, I could just bake an entire cake for about $9, LESS than a single cake from Carlo's Bake Shop. Carlo's Bake Shop vending machine was removed from my local Casino about a year ago. It was not a good seller at all. Carlo's Bake Shop vending machine has been replaced by a cigarette vending machine, REALLY ironic since my local Casino is smoke free. But to be fair, you can smoke OUTSIDE the Casino.

Let’s face it, a bunch of broke boons begging for bus fare isn’t exactly Carlo’s target market. A machine selling 40’s of malt liquor next to the Newport machine would have been a better choice.

Makes you wonder who makes these decisions.

Tasha, what is your favorite pizza in Miami? And have you ever had Laspada’s subs in the area?

I just have one question: If you want to buy a whole pizza and they don’t have more than one made already, then will they sell it to you for the whole pizza price, or will they only sell it to you for the by the slice price unless you want to wait around for them to cook a new one?

    Good call.

Add a Church's Chicken shack for the Nubian Trifecta.

Memo to Church's Chicken: THIS time put down a huge sewer grate in lieu of a solid floor "because shit happens."

Druff's review of Pizza cake doesn't sound too appealing. I won't rush to try a slice.

Best pizza I have had is downtown and it isn't Pizza Rock, although I occasionally eat there because the accept The D/ circa comp dollars. The best I have had is/was Pop up pizza locational in the Plaza. It has been a couple years and I am not even sure they are still open. These days when downtown I tend to grab lunch at Circa (Victory burger) or the D (Bacon Nation). I love Bacon Nation, but the service is terrible.

Speaking of making your own cake

    Eggs. $7
    Box mix. $5
    Frosting, $4
    Oil. $6

$22 for an entire cake using the box mix.

If you're making the cake from scratch with no box mix and homemade frosting.

    $3 for all purpose flour
    $6 for eggs
    $6 for butter
    $5 for sugar
    $6 for oil
    $5 for Cocoa powder
    $5 for heavy cream.

$36 for a from scratch cake using no box mix and homemade frosting.

My original $9 estimate was if you use just the box mix and frosting.

Tasha those prices are ridiculously high. But assuming prices are higher in South Florida, which I am not going to research, you don't need a dozen eggs to make a cake. You need 2 for a box and 2-3 for scratch. You don't use a pound of butter, nor a bottle of oil, nor a whole bag of flour. So unless you are using 2-3 eggs and throwing the other 9 away, throwing the remaining 3 sticks of butter and the remaining oil away, the actual cost is a fraction of what you claim.

Anyone who buys a premade cake from a store is basically putting poison in your body with all the sugar and preservative and chemicals. And for what? Doesn't even taste that good.

A box cake mix made at home, a little better. (a little less poison) tastes a little better.

best choice is to make it yourself by far. Will taste better and be better for you. And when I say "better for you" remember we are talking about cake, sugar and carbs. I am saying better than these other choices.

That said, almost finished my cases of TastyKakes.

I'm saying what you would need to buy to make a cake either from scratch or with help of a box mix. You would use the rest of the items to make more food.

One thing good about this place is if the cake is so bad it solves the problem of having your cake and eating it too.

You can simply always have your cake and never have to worry about eating it,

Something that is very difficult to do with good cake.

I don't eat from local pizza joints I eat Little Caesars usually (EXTREMELY good value pizza about $57 including tax, tip, and fees for 4 pizzas, 2 sodas, and 10 garlic sauces I live with 9 other people, so everybody can eat 3 slices and there are two slices still left. . and Domino's when I want to splurge. I spent about $113 for Dominos a couple of months ago as a splurge treat.
That is a very good deal. I’m glad to hear you do this with your family, nothing like everyone getting together over pizza, soda and garlic sauce.

Dominos is overpriced for the quality you get in my opinion.

As far as pizza chains go, I am surprised at how good Mountain Mike's Pizza is. I like it a lot better than Round Table.

Domino's New York Style pizza was extremely tasty. You are right that the Little Caesars pizza is a very good deal, roughly $57 to feed 10 people.

10 people in the crib??? You Haitian or Jamaican?

Tip and fees at Lil Sleezers? And FWIW, the pan pizza from Dominos is quite good and well worth the $6.99/ea when you buy 3 mix and match.

My recent Domino's Pizza splurge. It was roughly $82 subtotal and with the tax, fees, and tip, it was about $112.

My recent Little Caesars pizza deal

Two extra most bestest cheese pizzas, $13.98
Two extra most bestest pepperoni pizzas, $13.98
    Two Pepsis, $5.99
    10 garlic butter sauces, $6.25
8 piece bread sticks .99, special discount (Two family members didn't eat any of the bread sticks. App wouldn't let me multiply the bread discount. :/
    Subtotal was $39.42
    State fee, $2.61
    County fee, 0.43
    Service fee, $4.00
    Tip. $7.09
    Taxes, $3.09.

The Little Caesars pizzas are cheap, but they add weird fees like state and county fees. :/ Some people get the delivery/service fee confused with the tip.

Domino's Pizza box says that the Service/delivery fee is NOT the tip, they are two different charges. I had to babysit one of my Nephews when my Sister and Parents were working and I was off and it was a School day off. My Mom gave $20 for pizza and was SHOCKED that the $20 was only enough for ONE pizza with taxes, fees, tips, and the pizza . In the early 2000's, a $20 was enough for TWO pizzas.

I agree that Pizza Rock is the best Vegas pizza I've had thus far. I felt Secret Pizza was decent but overrated.

Keep in mind that Pizza Rock isn't nearly as good as the best NYC pizza joints, but as far as Vegas pizza goes, it's the best I've had. At least the counter pizza is, which is different than the restaurant pizza for some reason!

When I went there in 2022, they refused to sell me the counter pizza while in the restaurant. The manager eventually compromised that I could have the counter pizza in the restaurant if I bought an entire pie... so I did!
