Thread: Las Vegas X Train makes announcements via email newsletter

  1. #1
I was a little surprised this morning to find an email from the Las Vegas Railway Express with what amounts to vital information for investors. It surprised me that the info was distributed by email and not by some usual investor release via a wire service.

The newsletter contains info about the X Train's schedule and it looks like if all goes well the service between Southern Cal and Las Vegas won't start until the fall of 2013. The last estimate we got via their facebook page was May of 2013 or early summer.

Updated: Shares of XTRN closed at 16.5 cents. A couple of weeks ago it was as low as 6-cents, and it once traded at 45-cents. Remember that penny stocks such as this can turn on a dime, and penny stocks can literally turn by a dime.

I think you live in S. Cal. Would you be able to or want to take that train if and when service does start?

I would love to take the train. Originally it was supposed to depart Union Station in downtown LA, but then they changed the point of departure to the Amtrak Station in Fullerton. For me, getting to Fullerton is "a ride" as opposed to downtown and you have to now add in the extra hour of driving to Fullerton. (Fullerton by the way is ideal for Orange County and also a great location for people in Vegas using the train to visit So Cal amusement parks.)

If you have four people in a car, you will save money driving, but you always have the traffic problems no matter what the per person cost. When I had to make my quick business trip to LV I still had to drive, and I doubt a train schedule would have fit. But if I was going to LV for a weekend, and the extra hour of getting to Fullerton were not an issue, then the train would be ideal for a party of two, or even one. But if you have a group of four, the economics says you still drive because the train is supposed to be $99 each way per passenger.

Isn't it true that people in this country just don't take to trains very well? Usually the system goes into bankruptcy or near bankruptcy after the initial fascination with train rides. People in LA love their cars too. I hope it works but I have my doubts.

I didn't realise there's traffic jams between LV and LA. Any particular time or times of day when there isn't?

Is this a joke? On holiday weekends the normal four hour drive from LV to LA and from LA to LV can take eight hours or longer. There are "peak travel times" such as Sunday afternoons when the ride is a six hour ride.

When we drive to LV we leave after 9pm to avoid the crush. When we leave LV to return to LA we leave after midnight.

I guess it's more of an issue than I thought. I don't get to LA much and have never driven between there and LV. I see what you mean by is it a joke. To someone who has to drive over night all the time so as to not get caught up in all that, I understand.

But I was right about how S. Californians love their cars!

Sure Southern Californians love their cars, but many of us came from New York, and Boston and Chicago and LA is now growing a train system, and styles and tastes change and now Southern California wants mass transit because of the savings it offers.

No news this past week for the XTRN stock, but shares rose again. Up 2-cents to 18-cents. Good move for a penny stock. My weekly report on the Vegas casino and gaming stocks is here: http://www.alanbestbuys.com/id103.html

Caesars falls again. Now almost a dollar below its IPO.
