Thread: my table just hit a jackpot at Hollywood Park

  1. #1
Playing at a $100 buy-in table quad jacks beat aces full. Table share is $620. The player with aces full gets about $4K. The winner wit JJJJ gets about $2K.

My full report is here with photos: http://www.alanbestbuys.com/id145.html

What is amazing for the other seven players at the table, is that we were handed $620 for just sitting there... and folding.

Congrats! Normally the jackpots are around $20 or $30k, or higher, this seems like a smaller jackpot. Perhaps it had been hit recently?

Yes, it got hit the night before.

Hollywood Park is a big casino and because the jackpot hand is Aces full of 9s beaten by quads or better, it can also be hit more often.

A couple of years ago I was there when the jackpot was hit THREE TIMES within an hour.

Congrats on being in right place at right time. And sometimes the wrong cards can be the right cards.

We had a good laugh at the table last night congratulating the player in seat #3 for "losing with pocket aces." He lost a pot of a few hundred dollars, but he won a jackpot of about $4-thousand. It's wonderful to be a loser like that.

This brings up an interesting question as to what minimum threshold a bad beat jackpot should be when a poker room becomes 'worthwhile' to visit. Yes, I can see the enormous number of variables to take into consideration there..

Not only is it difficult to hit a bad beat jackpot, but to also be at the right table. You might as well play megabucks.

I've been at -- I think -- four tables and got a table share. I've never been the winner or loser in a bad beat hand. My bad beat table shares have ranged from a low of $345 to last night's $620 which was my biggest.

Play poker because you either enjoy the game or you are good at it. Don't gamble on being there for a bad beat jackpot.

Edited to add: There might be one exception to this at Pechanga, the Indian casino in Temecula. In their mega bad beat jackpot every player in the casino gets something which I think might be $100. But again, you might have to play many, many hours to be there when it hits.
