. Yes. The famous "thanks for nothing."

Haha couldn't have said it any better. Thanks for playing and use your own reward credits to cover all expenses. I make an effort to put everything on my players card when in Vegas or Rincon. That way I burn through all of my credits and they usually pick up the rest.

When you build up your reward credits for months (which provides a summation of your play AND indicates your loyalty to them), it makes no sense to require you to burn them up at their behest. It would have hurt them absolutely nothing to pick up a dinner or maybe a portion of the bar tab from my room invoice. I wasn't expected my host to wipe the slate clean, but given his when we met, he turned out to be no different than the other host @ Harrahs.

The reality is, hosts at Harrah's/Caesars can do nothing for you except make reservations and hold your hand. The "system" is set up so that you burn through your "reward credits." But as JamieV hinted, if don't have any reward credits THEN a host might be able to pick up some charges for you.

Let me give you a case in point.

About two years ago, before the Christmas holidays, I went to Caesars to do some "gift shop shopping" with my reward credits. I had about $2,000 in extra "reward credits" that I knew I would not need for my hotel bill including food charges, etc. And with those credits I went to the gift shop and bought "stuff" including electronics, clothing, perfumes, etc. Everything was charged to the room.

When I called from my room to check out on Sunday, the guest services person looked at the room charges and said "oh, you have a lot of charges, let me get a host on the line to see if these can be covered." And I said, "I have enough reward credits." And the guest services person said, "oh, yes you do." That's when we discussed what the "policy" was.

And this is what I was told:

If you have the credits, they use the credits first.
If you have the "play" they want, then a host might pick up the extra charges.

By the way, my host did not call me after my conversation with the marketing manager who pretty much said I was worth only $300 of trip offers despite my tier score of 360,000 (about three and a half times the amount for 7-Stars). So I've done some investigating and found that several other casino companies in LV now offer the "fire bet" at craps so there is no reason to make Caesars the only place to play craps now.

If you recall my new craps strategy is the passline plus the fire bet. Station Casinos has added the fire bet and I happen to love Red Rock and they have great craps tables there and the one time I played there the dealers were very friendly and gave me no trouble for a nice run while setting and using a controlled throw. Online info shows that the fire bet is now available as well at Mandalay Bay and Bellagio. As you know I had that big fight with a craps crew over my setting and controlled throw and I am not welcomed there. But I never had a problem at Mandalay Bay. In fact Mandalay was where I was dealt a royal on a 50-play machine. (Nickels, it paid $10k.)

I just noticed that the thread was accidentally "locked." It has been reopened. This is not the first time that threads are accidentally locked, and I don't know why it happens, but I try to correct the error when I see it.

Alan..I understand the policy that Casears has in regard to utilizing reward credits in advance of any possible host consideration but for the overall impression which is being made to the vast majority of the T.R. members is that Caesars is not concerned with the every-day player and only caters to the high end. Throwing a bone to the masses, if only a gesture of "thanks for playing here today/this week", will bring a return to their coffers that goes way beyond the cost of a buffet or a couple of drinks. If a guy is holding $200-$300 in RC, there's no need to insist he use them up when a host can instead make the guest "feel like a big shot" (which is an incredible casino aphrodisiac) and give the guy and the little wife dinner at the buffet for a cost to Caesars of less than $5. These two guest will feel like a million bucks, go back into the casino and repay Caesars 10X before the evening is over. It's a win-win.

Vegas_Vic that is exactly what I told not only my host and the Marketing "manager" when I had them on the phone. How much profit did they lose by not giving players an incentive to show up?

In my business, I will gladly give someone a discount that in return will give me a profit. In the retailing business it's called a "loss leader." But if the "loss leader" is not sufficient, no one will show up to shop.

What the marketing folks at Caesars seem to forget is that they are not the only game in town. Every few weeks I get a letter in the mail or a call from a host at another casino asking me to "try us out" and they make offers. Some of the offers will match or even double what Caesars offers.

The bottom line here is that there is no such thing as "loyalty clubs" or "loyalty rewards" and you're only as good as the play on your last visit. And in your case, Vic, it is a case of deception and false advertising. You were led to believe that the host would do something for you at check out, allowing you to use your "reward credits" on other things such as gift cards, or ordering something from the total rewards gift catalogue. He failed to come through, and you have a right to feel that you were "used."

In a recent visit to Caesars Vegas, I had horrible luck for 3 days in craps. I got murdered. Before I checked out, I went to the little room by the cage that they have and asked the host what he could do for me. He said he would take care of everything (meaning food etc as room is always free offer). Because I'm OCD, I asked him, just to clarify, did that mean he was covering the meals--not using my own points. He said yes, and I heard him specify this to whomever he then called on the phone to do so.

Of course, a few weeks later when I got my on-line Total rewards statement, all my points were gone. I called my host and complained. She said that a player's points must be zeroed out before any discretionary comps are used. That's their rule. We argued for a while; I made her call the host in that little office and then finally they reinstated my points.

She told me that once my points are gone, she will comp just about anything I ask for-no problem. I told her I never had to ask for anything in 25 years and don't like to and wasn't gonna start now. Basically an impass--that's their rules no matter how much we dislike them.

So catch 22 whether to change venues.

For the most part the legendary "power of the pen" is gone.
