My first couple years in Vegas (moved here in late 2009), I didn't drive. I lived in a condo at Flamingo/Koval and played the strip and off strip places like, Terribles (now silver 7), Hooter, Orleans, Gold Coast, Palms. And I would take the bus downtown to play a lot. Eventually I started taking the bus to different Station casinos and South Point.

But every early on, the first year or two it was about the strip and Downtown (via bus). Almost every day, my path to the strip involved a stop at Casino Royale, coming or going. Then cut through Imperial Palace and out the back door, by the area that is now built up to include the High Roller, pass by and stop at Westin, for a few minutes on the dealers angels game.

At Casino Royal, I would do that free promotional spin, both coming and going looking for the $5 match play. Eventually the guy working that machine outside, would save up any discarded MP's that people threw away. The tourists were looking for the free drink. So maybe I would get in 4 or 5, $5 MP's Small time stuff but it all added up. In those days I was really "grinding". Made about the same (annual EV and win) as I did later on, just worked a lot harder to get it.

And the cherry on top back in those days was the $1 or $1.25 (maybe $1.50) foot long hotdog at Casino Royale.
The dogs were .99 years ago then went to $1,49, $1.99 and now $2.49. Add in the $1 beer and it was a cheap stop for those on a budget and the homeless that wouldn’t rather spend the money on a higher ABV “bum can” of Steel Reserve or Hurricane.

I remember the free play they offered for signing up years ago was like $75 or $100, but with a catch. It could only be used on special machines setup by the booth and they returned next to nothing. Total scam but brought customers through the door.

Also the place had, and still has some of the worst restrooms on the strip right up there with Flamingo. O’Sheas wasn’t any better either but at least they had the Piss Off machine where you could measure your piss for a quarter. Damn, I miss the Vegas of even 15 years ago.
Those rigged machines for that shit was the most obnoxious thing ever. I did that once or twice years ago. Tropicanna and Hooters is what I recall.

    "Piss Off machine" ?

Yeah, they did have that scammy free play offer. Somebody else on the southern end of strip did that as well for a couple years. Maybe Hooters? And later DownTown Grand had a version of that. You might win $10 off your $100 free play on those "special machines".

BUT, sometime after that, Casino Royale had a fairly decent offer that the first $20 lost would be rebated on any machine, even video poker. And they allowed you to do that multiple times a year. Maybe even once a month. But then that disappeared.

edit: sorry. I see AinQ already referenced the hooters scammy FP.
Dan Druff: "there's no question that MDawg has been an obnoxious braggart, and has rubbed a ton of people the wrong way. There's something missing from his stories. Either they're fabricated, grossly exaggerated, or largely incomplete".

The Piss Off machine was found at O’Sheas and a few other bars I visited over the years. Basically you paid a quarter and pissed into the cup in the urinal and it measured how much you pissed. Seemed like a good idea at the time when drunk.

The problem with the one at O’Sheas was the urinal was used so much and the cleaning crew didn’t exactly take care of it so calcium built up on it and it didn’t measure properly. Add jokers throwing quarters into the cup blocking holes and it wasn’t exactly accurate. You know, for those who wanted an accurate reading, lol.

Anyways the company that made it, Wacky Willie’s, didn’t last long and I haven’t seen one in a bar in over a decade.

This is probably the best thing I will learn today.

Seems like it could lead to guys pissing themselves in your bar trying to win some wager. lol. Don't think I'd have one in my bar as fun as it sounds.

I've always said that if you want to use past tense, have at it. I've probably said that 20 times just on this forum. It's not coin flipping, so as the caveat goes, past results are no predictor of future outcomes.

I think Munchkin set the stage for me using a simple line like "past tense." I had a whole spiel ready for him as to why "EV" was not appropriate terminology for predicting sports betting profits, but when the topic was introduced, he more or less shrugged his shoulders and said something like you should only use that past tense. It seemed obvious to him. That summed it up admirably, and no further discussion was needed. It's obvious that if "EV" is just a past tense descriptor and is no predictor, there's no real utility in using it as lingo regarding expectations going forward.
You talk a lot about "coin flips" but I've never seen you use the phrase "coin flips with juice." What does coin flips with juice mean to you?

Leave it to another redietz boring brand-saving attempt just to make a fool of himself again. As if this obscure "Dr. Beck" is gonna revive his desired reputation while he goes for yet another "on-the-cheap" trip to LV. What are the odds Beck was cajoled into paying for the only decent meal they had....And who the f*** let's a traveling companion rent the car for the first few days--and then rents one himself after the guy leaves--instead of taking the reins on the rental from day one! Is it any wonder red never went into any business where people skills is an indication of character?

We just left Reno yesterday after 4 nights at Tuscany in the Peppermill. The folks we went to dinner with each night weren't "Fulbright Scholars", none have "Dr." listed in their names, and none of them had to pay a dime for our meals at Bimini and Atlantis Steakhouses. But all of them are normal, interesting people from various parts of the country. And if I wrote a trip report about it all, you can be sure it would be a shit-ton more relatable than what we saw here. No one crosses the country just to save-a-buck everywhere they go.

Yes....its even more clear today than ever why I was solicited for funds by hustlers who said they were associates of this Tennessee Toot.

His trip reports are boring and vanilla as can be but I will always read them because it is redietz. Alien extraordinaire. Friend of successful people everywhere.

Do you know why there are so many professors in the world?

    Because those that can….do.
    Those that can’t….teach.

The problem with that line of thinking is that without teachers / professors actually instilling knowledge into fertile minds it would be difficult to master difficult subjects as trial and error can take a long time.

And those who really, really can't... teach and get paid a third as much. Like Shackleford (look up "adjunct"). LOL.

All bullshit aside I am impressed at your willingness to post these pictures. It is also clear that you've had a lot better go of it with the ladies compared to Singer.

That's a strange comment about Shackleford.

If I'm not mistaken he's not a failed academic but someone who is eminent in his field (the analysis of actual gambling problems) and probably got invited to do some teaching at the local college. This happens a lot with people that are locally prominent laymen (for example in law or business, or even redietz cherished field of journalism).

But even if he were an aspiring academic stuck at the adjunct level... it's unclear why redietz would be in a position to look down on this.

I feel like I must be missing something.

This guy who claims he has made a living for many decades off of sports betting in some form (futures, contests, ECT) has for years posted his real name. And then his address (over and over) and now he is flat out posting pictures of himself.

Either sports betting in Vegas ( which I don't really do) is VERY different from say...blackjack table game advantage play....or maybe AinQ is right and this guy is pulling our leg.

I mean is this yet another dude telling us that casinos don't care about players that have won for years? I know several databases that say otherwise.

LOL. You should take this up with Mickey, who thinks attending Bet Bash at Circa is a great way to network with other sports betting movers and shakers. And let's not forget Spanky and all the You Tube weiners.

Oh, and have you noticed Billy Walters wearing a mask while in sports books? No? Think he's quit betting?

KewlJ, you basically know next to nothing about sports betting. Not, as Seinfeld says, that there's anything wrong with that.

You know, I worry about you. I've pretty much always thought you were likely more real than not, but you do occasionally make comments that are sheer book-read naivete. For someone who has allegedly (note I said allegedly) been professionally gambling in Las Vegas for more than a decade, you are tone deaf to some aspects of reality. And damn, now MDawg will quote me on that.

Dawg, if you quote me on that, please shell out $6.51 for a Starbucks medium coffee each time you use it. I'm working towards being an "AP." It'll help with tuition.

Now be nice, coach. I hesitated posting this because it's a goddawful photo of me, but then I thought what the hell? I scrunched down in a very weird way to make sure the waiter got us both in frame. It led to an awful pic. But it's a bang-up pic of Scott, so that's a good thing.

Because mickey said those who can't . . . teach. So Shackleford evidently can't, and he's getting paid about a third of what everyone else who can't is getting paid. It was strictly a rejoinder to mickey's brilliance. If you disagree with "those who can't . . . teach," take it up with mickey.

I think it's great that Shackleford has a teaching gig. Maybe he loves to teach. Maybe he needs the bread. Maybe he likes hanging with 19-year-old women. More power to him. Who am I to judge?

Mickey's the one judging "those who teach." Mickey's a little slow on the draw. Maybe "those who teach, double their chances of getting laid."
