AFAIK it is quite known temperatures have been going up (and substantially at that).

The problem is all the whataboutism. When you say "global warming" anyone can point to some ice storm and say "what about this!?". So IMO this is why the term global warming went out of fashion. I prefer Earth baking myself but whatevers.
