I'm positive many people you have talked to have had the virus and just don't know. This is what makes it so bad in some ways - transmission goes nuts because it is so often asymptomatic.
A phrase I have read before about Covid-19 rings true here: "it's so deadly you need a test to even know if you have it" . It kind of reminds me of Herpes. Abut 90% of the world population may have it, but it is rare for it to cause serious issues (and no masks or months long world wide lockdown either for Herpes).
