What I do think is this game involves variance and at times, pretty big swings.
You know all those somewhat outdated blackjack books from the 80's? While there are some things outdated like the bet spreads and ramps (today's games require a quicker ramps and/or bigger spread), the one thing they all had right was the need for a large bankroll due to variance and swings.
At that time, before every player had computer software available to him, the general rule was BR = 100 x largest or max bet. We now have software that can be even more specific depending on one's individual tolerance for RoR. And for most serious players 100 max bets is not enough. Most play 150 to 200 max bets.
Why? Because you WILL incur these big swings! Anyone that can not accept this, should not be playing or at least trying to play professionally or seriously.

And finally, a player that has won, $50,000, $60,000, $80,000 over a number of months or part of a year and then goes on to lose 20k over months, and thinks something is wrong.....just doesn't understand the game and variance involved. It is that pure and simple.

BoSox, I share what I do. And what I do and how I do it is based on my circumstances of where I play. I can't very well share what you or others do.But I have always encouraged you and other to share what and how you do. You and others are always resistant to that. And THAT is your call. I would LOVE to hear more about what you do and how you do it. Likely there would be some things I could incorporate into my game just as I have from many others. A lot of what I do has come from other players. I am actually proud of that.
Now, I don't think I have ever said my way is the only way or anything to that effect. What I have said many times is that old "playall" approach" where a player sits down at one table for 3, 4 hours playing through all the negative hands to get to the fewer (than years ago) really good positive count hands, is a very tough hill to climb these days.
I am sure you are aware that when I travel, I play other styles out of necessity. And this year and last, even in Vegas, I have been playing higher limits so as to accumulate EV faster than my usual grinding style. That means I have adopted new techniques, to camouflage those spread. One such technique I have mentioned is spreading both ways. So I am on the same page as you. There are different techniques and styles, some better suited for different circumstances than mine. Again, I share what I do....that is all I can do.
As for Reno....I won't be rushing back.Besides the 5 figure backslide I experienced, losing most sessions, through a friend, I have just become aware of "consequences" that are likely to follow me back home or wherever I am playing next. My fault.
I probably didn't adjust to what I know is their lower tolerance level as much as I should have.
