Thread: What's the best place to stay in vegas?

  1. #1
What's the best decent mid range (ie not motel 6 but not bank buster price) place to stay for someone visiting Vegas who plans to visit

    The Strip
    Downtown
    Pinball Hall Of Fame

Considerations are value (bang for the buck), comfort, and distance to the above 3 locations.

The Pinball Hall of Fame is now on East Trop? This is quite a triangulation. Will you have a car? Downtown is roughly 1 1/2 miles from the most north section of the strip.

debating whether to get rent a car or just rely on uber

after thinking for another minute just thought definitely rental car. if i hit a hand pay i don't want to be getting an uber to the bank to deposit it.

If it's your first time in Las Vegas, my generic recommendation would be a mid-strip, moderately priced property. That way you can walk the strip and use your car just to go downtown or to the Pinball Hall of Fame. If you choose to not rent a car and use uber to go the HOF, then you can catch a bus from mid-strip to downtown anytime.

Centrally located, relatively modest priced properties would be the Flamingo or Bally's. If you want something a little nicer, the Mirage has been sold and will probably be getting a considerable makeover, so if you want to stay at the first mega-resort and see it in its original state, check out the Mirage. I also steer people to Paris, which is probably about as much as the Mirage.

If you do get a car and want to save some money by staying off-strip, look up The Tuscany or the Orleans.

Pepe, Tim Arnold lets me sleep under the Gottlieb 2001 free of charge whenever I am in town. I just throw a sleeping bag underneath the machine after giving the underside of the cabinet a good wipedown with a dust cloth. Just kidding my friend, I hope you have a fun and profitable trip and get some Grand Champion scores at the PHOF.

The Tuscany is by far the winner in your required categories.

Glad to see someone else likes the Tuscany. For a while there, I was able to use some senior perk to bypass the resort fee, but that angle has expired, unfortunately. I do like the place. Last time I was there, they had adopted the Rat Pack show, I like the coffee shop, I like the Italian restaurant, no complaints from me.

When my compadres visit, I often try to get a Tuscany room just because it's a good war room kind of meeting place. Lots of square footage in a room and a good place to gather your thoughts and get organized.

Mirage is probably the best MGM property if you have some money but still value shopping. Excaliber is the best low end place. MGM Grand/NY NY/MGM Park are all about the same but MGM Park has this food court thing that is sorta like Resorts World. Resorts World is pretty great if you don't want to deal with reservations and weird hours for food. (Location sucks unless you don't want to walk on the strip and have a car)

You might consider which places let you park for free if you don't have free parking status.

Flamingo is good for the history and the park in the back is kinda cool.

That being said if I had no reason to be on strip I prefer downtown these days but I hear cars are broken into frequently.

For a few years, I stayed at Holiday Inn Express in California, mostly Nor Cal. I like the chain and they have been good to me. So then I had a business trip in Vegas and went ahead and stayed at a HIE on Russell Blvd and it was pretty nice as well. My long time go to in Vegas has always been the Santa Fe Station, just the place I like, way off the strip. Second long time go to local joint is the Gold Coast Hotel. Nice and decent place.

Gold Coast on Flamingo and Orleans on Tropicana are sister properties, with the Orleans being the younger, spiffier place. The Orleans is sometimes a few bucks more; sometimes not. Gold Coast is next to the Rio and across the street from the Palms. Orleans is next to a large, fine-looking strip club.

It really makes a big difference whether you have a car or not. If you're trying to watch your $$ then being off strip without a car is going to wind up costing you, or you're going to spend a lot of time at that property. That isn't really Vegas and could be a casino in many other places in the US.

If you don't have a car you need to either be central strip, or downtown. If you have a car then you probably want to forego both of these locations and staying off strip may very well be preferred. If you pay for parking it'd cost 1 leg of the cab ride.

Why wouldn't you take Uber to a bank?

If you're playing enuf to possibly hit a handpay then you could get the room comped if you stay off-strip. I agree Tuscany is a decent place for your needs.

Or---maybe kew could offer you a place to bed down....

uber driver taking note of me going to the bank after the casino, that driver knows i'm a winner now, maybe can set me up to get robbed or something.

Make sure Tim Arnold doesn't see you nudging the machines or he'll go ballistic.

The driver would only get wise to this after you go to the bank. I would then end the Uber trip and the request a Lyft just to change it up, or a taxi. Get creative to throw off any possible bad guys.

With all this paranoia, just kill the driver, rob him or her (after you rape her of course) and then get their home address from the DL so you can go over and kill the spouse & kids and burn the cat alive.

Or....you can worry yourself to death for having probably peanuts worth of cash in your pocket.
