When is it going to open again?
I will offer my opinion as a "casino gambling hobbyist", I am no means a professional gambler.
I do not think it will reopen as it stands to be little to no profitable operation.
Buffalo Bills had its glory days back in the 1990s, even hosted the World Strongest Man competition within the vicinity. It is suffering the same fate as the Laughlin region. Once Pechanga, Morongo, Yamaava, Pala, Rincon, Agua Caliente emerged with resorts and Class III gaming rights, both Jean and Laughlin markets lost the majority of the Southern California player base. From the gaming aspect, the only advantages it can offer is comped alcoholic drinks, real dice for craps, and real roulette wheel. The most profitable gamblers to the casino only care about blackjack, baccarat, paigow, and slots; they do not have to travel additional hours each way. The resorts in So Cal have only expanded/renovated ever since.
The biggest thing going for the casinos in Jean back in the 1990s was that it was closer by 20 miles to Las Vegas to have access to gambling, and it also gave Southern California natives a last opportunity to gamble when departing Las Vegas on their way home.
Vegas locals do not have much incentive to travel 20 miles out, when there are Stations, Boyd, Downtown, SouthPoint/M Resort and other Henderson casinos. The only incentive I can think of for the locals to come to the area is when they want to cross state border lines to participate in the national Powerball or Mega Million lotteries, or play California Lottery Scratch Offs (Scratchers).
The only potential I see left in Jean is the expansive land they have to build something of significance. Unfortunately it is not one of the 4 locations in Vegas that the Oakland Athletics baseball team looking to build a new stadium and relocate.
Going back 20 to 25 years ago those casinos at Primm and Jean used to be easy room comp. Hustlers lived down there for months at the time. They used to have dollar full pay deuces I would occasionally hole up and play. But overall the place was a little to boring for me.
But they did have the Bonnie & Clyde car which I got to see close up.
Challenge to redietz. We bet every NFL regular season game. You make the picks. If you lay the fav I get 2 extra points. If you take the dog I get a 2 point discount. Easy pickings for you.
Did not see this coming... Got to check it out.
I also enjoyed the outdoor coaster, but I wouldn't trust riding on it today. I'm not sure if it will ever operate again. I have to imagine that the maintenance hasn't exactly been kept up, and those harsh desert conditions might have really eaten away at it.
Great ride in the '90s though.
