I don't understand the pre-occupation, and especially the negative connotation, with a retired couple living part of the year in their children's home(s).

Is this the typical perspective of observers who are, themselves, childless adults?

An adult living in solitude in their mother's basement may be mock-worthy, but grandparents living in the same home with their grandchildren seems like a wonderful arrangement for a loving family.
It is ok you're a bit confused here. I'm not sure who is preoccupied or why you believe that? Regardless, I will help with your confusion.

My parents saved up enough money to not have to rely on their kids and dad is solid blue collar etc. I think that is the normal expectation for someone who is a fraction of the success Rob claims to be.

Whether there should be shamed in being so broke one has to rely on their children would be your call.

Also, it is clearly a joke and a fair counter to the stuff Ron has said and claimed. Maybe you're autistic and thats why you don't get it was a joke? It goes quite under diagnosed in the senior population.
