The latter involves a different definition of nature. In the sense that nor is reality nurtured.
This would be contrary to the premise of the book you mentioned, The Great Derangement, if I understand the premise correctly from reading the summary.

The book argues that Americans cannot agree on one reality or one set of objective facts.

So the book appears to be arguing that different versions of reality can be nurtured & that is the whole issue.
