Dan Druff, I don't know how often you read this thread (or forum for that matter), but I am going to post this anyway. I rarely visit the poker forum, but did this morning looking to see ig you make baseball picks more frequently there than here. But what I did read was that you (Dan Druff) contracted covid for the second time last month at WSOP. Welcome to the 2 times covid club.

Mine were early on thought and I haven't had another case in 3 years. I do keep up to date with the vacs.
So the point of my post. I was reading your long covid symptoms, and those symptoms don't sound like long covid to me, at least not any symptoms I have heard. The coughing and mucus and constant clearing of throat sounds like acid reflux to me, particularly LPR reflux, which I have dealt with for years, long before covid. You were complaining of something a few years back, which I actually thought sounded like acid reflux back then. Have you ever been tested of diagnosed with Acid reflux, or LPR reflux? I have LPR and it is definitely made worse for a period after covid or even just a common cold.
Point of information: LPR reflux is when the acid from the stomach makes it's way through
both valves, one at the lower end, the second at the upper end of the esophagus. This brings the reflux and a damaging enzyme Pepsin into the throat which is just not equipped to handle it. The body defense system kicks in and starts making extra mucus to protect that throat area.
There is no real cure. There are several different versions of operations to strengthen the valves, particularly the lower valve, but none have a good success rate. Most people end up on longterm PPI (proton pump inhibitors), which reduce the stomach acid that you make and helps manage the problem. But you really don't want to get on long-term PPI's if you can avoid it. there are side effect, with long-term use and they are very hard to get off of if you ever decide to.
I am on them, and have been for years, but I have managed to cut the dose to about 1/3 of the original dosage. So with LPR reflux there are a million home remedy type things like the pineapple juice you mentioned to reduce the mucus, coughing and throat clearing. You can try them, but none work.
But I have found something that helps me a good deal. Drink alkaline water. You need a PH level of 9 or higher. 8.8, which is common in bottled alkaline water will do, but 9.0 or above is better. You can buy bottles at the grocery store, or buy drops (amazon) to add to regular water that increases the PH levels. The reason this works is that water with a PH level of above 9, neutralized the pepsin enzyme that is causing all the damage and mucus and coughing. I don't know if this is your actual problem, but it is worth a try. I think you will see some relief. Just take a couple swallows multiple times a day, particularly after eating. Try to hold the water in your throat for a second or two before swallowing to allow it to come in contact with the pepsin. You may not see results immediately, but after several days to a week, you start to get some relief, as you are essentially neutralizing or killing the pepsin each time, before it can do too much damage.
Hope this helps you or maybe someone else with the same issue.
