I enjoyed Tom Nichol's (Benicio's) unflappability - the outlet for his fears and concerns occurred only in the privacy of his dreams. The casting was perfect and it was a well done mystery in terms of twists, although, as you know, it was obvious from the beginning that Justin Timberlake/Grady (and his mom) was as guilty as a mother fucker. Anyway, very good film and thanks again for the reco.
Yeah, not great but good enough.
The writers played it a bit safe in the middle and ending.
I could relate to Benico being a detective compared to Kidman.
I swear, Eric Bogosian/Captain Robert Allen looks and sounds like Sydney Pollack, but he died in 2008.
Kind of eerie.
I'm pretty sure you're gonna like Arkansas too if you enjoy Vince Vaughn being Vince Vaughn.
The movie is a bit of a Tarantino knock off, but it felt linear too me.
The girlfriend doesn't make much sense, to me, in the storyline, but you know, sex sells.
And this movie is a bit of a spoof.
That makes it easier to swallow.
I really wanted it to keep going.
Or give us an extended directors cut.
More Frog Backstory.
More Malkovich Backstory.
Or I could just rewatch the stupid thing.

I agree - Benicio is an infinitely better cast in a detective role than Kidman. For example, it was awesome how unflinching he was when the thuggish, corrupt cop Wally (Domenick Lombardozzi) engaged in non-stop mind-fuckery and intimidation tactics.
I knew he was going places after seeing him in License to Kill.
Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing Arkansas.
That's interesting.
I watched a lot of movies, but I wasn't a buff, so I didn't really notice him.
He's in Swimming with Sharks and I don't even remember him in that.
I noticed him in The Usual Suspects but still didn't respect or think anything of him.
He's in The Pledge with Jack Nicholson.
I love that Fucking Movie.
Benico does some wild acting in that movie.
I love how that movie ends.
I know people who have gone crazy like that and shake their hands while talking to things you can't see.
I love Benico in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but it took me a few years to realize that was him lol.
I guess I really started to realize who he was after that movie with Tommy Lee Jones in The Hunter.
I like it when you don't even realize certain actors are in a movie.
Gary Oldman was really good at that for a very long time.
He tricked me many times, lol.
Well, in License to Kill, he plays a henchman (Dario). He and another henchman first appear in that coastal bar room scene where the bar is situated right on the wharf. What I think makes him such a great actor is that he is terrific in both villain and good-guy roles, whereas many other very popular actors are only good as mostly playing villains or mostly playing good-guys.
I enjoyed the movie as you had figured Monet. Regardless of where the truth lies, this movie convinced me that it is a really bad idea for anyone to get into the business of selling illegal drugs. Clever, dry, southern dialogue throughout. Nice Southern soundtrack (they had everything jammed in there but Flirtin' With Disaster). A Malkovich prequel would be great as you basically suggested. One thing we know is that Bright/Malkovich took the "Always Obey My Orders" directive from Frog, was recruited into Frog's crew after the Donut Shop brothers, and then issued the same directive to Swin and Kyle when he brought them into the crew.
Thanks for the Information and break downs tableplay!
That soundtrack for Arkansas is pretty sweet.
I like the Flaming Lips cover of Country Boy Can Survive.
They probably will never release the soundtrack due to some problem with rights.
Or maybe Hank Williams Jr. won't sign off on it.
Whatever, movie is still good.
As I was reading the comments someone posted that this movie was better.
So, ofcourse, I watched it.
It's not better than Arkansas and Double V isn't really doing Double V, but it's good enough for a viewing.
They put some Anti-Woke stuff in the movie, but they put some woke stuff in there too.
Like, it makes no sense that Vince Vaughn's character is in love with some Feminist Black Girl.
And she only has like 1 or 2 minutes of actual screen time.
I guess these movies were made during Covid and had a hard time being released.
It's unusual that it takes me 4 to 5 years to find movies.
Dragged Across Concrete (2019)
Thanks again for this reco Monet. I watched the movie and noticed that there was no reason a person shouldn't watch it (or, as you wrote - good enough for a viewing). I wish they showed how the black guy managed to fence all that gold bullion (or at least enough of his share, to pay for all that opulent living), but movies have to have time limits and the movie had a nice non-hurried pace, unlike a lot of movies these days. I agree with you that this movie is not better than Arkansas and I would add that I think it is not as good as Arkansas. But then, it is a pretty good movie and Arkansas was a really good movie.
Yeah, I said the exact same thing at the end of the movie.
How did he avoid the radar of the IRS or did he move to some Foreign Country to evade taxes?
I guess you would have to melt down the gold in some fashion.
Also, how in the world did he clean up that whole area and bury those bodies before sunrise by himself??
I'm sure he had better connections than Mel Gibsons wife.
How the Fuck is she going to fence those hot gold bars??
lul... I mean, I get it... it's just a movie.
LOL.
She lives in the same city (Bulwark) as where the robbery went down - what could go wrong ? Maybe she has a smelter in one of her closets or under her bed.
Of course, in the real world, as we both know, all the black guy did was set her up for a prison sentence (well actually Mel Gibson set her up for prison time, by requesting that the black robber send her some of the take).
Ending re-write:Black guy has it all smelted off (taking a hit on the vig for having it smelted by a connection), fences it (possibly through the smelter folks), and sends (via private courier) her some bricks of cash instead.

I think, in the real world, those black guys never get invited into this sort of operation.
And I think it's more surgical with no body count.
Of course, smash and grab style robberies, like this, are a thing of the past.
That movie trying to tell us that a black guy, from that hood, who went to prison, is that smart and that good with a handgun??
And why is Double V shooting a Sniper Rifle under the leaking gas tank in a puddle of gasoline?
I would have thought if he was gonna snipe that Gibson would have let him off a ways back, to set up a position on the hill.
Ehh you know... movie, script... budget.
By the way they made or are making Den of Thieves 2.
Not sure they needed a part 2.
Also, IMO, Gladiator 2 doesn't look very good.
I'll wait till it's free on some channel.
Juror #2 piques my interest but not enough to actually take time to sit in the theater.
Those days are done for me.
Thanks for the heads up on the upcoming movies Monet. I'm looking forward to Accountant 2 (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7068946/) which is expected to hit the theaters in April. I liked the first The Accountant movie.
