The Caesars Palace/Las Vegas is a vastly over-rated joint, hey hey?

Post the ratings so we can have some context.

My understanding is that CP is considered a second-tier joint for Vegas.

Oops, forgot to add a hey hey at the end...my bad.

Their whole brand is vastly overrated.

If not for their name recognition and locations many of their properties would not be able to stay in business.

I think soxfan was referring to the LV property, not the company. The property was, when it opened, cutting edge in opulence. Then, after about 25 years, it became viewed as more of over-the-top fun kitsch than an attempt at serious highbrow-ism. When the Mirage opened, the tone contrast was evident. When Bellagio opened, it became even more clear that Caesars was more of a prom than a black-tie dinner.

Having said that, some of the old rooms couldn't have been more lavish. When I entered the single-weekend World Cup of Handicapping at Caesars back in the day ('93 maybe? Have to look it up), they assigned us these rooms with huge round beds like Dean Martin had in the Matt Helm movies, mirrors on each wall, and mirrored ceilings. Kind of a shame I was alone. I can't say I've ever seen a room quite like that. Kitschy? Yeah, maybe, if you wanted to view it that way, but if somebody told you it was a Saudi prince's suite, then the word "kitsch" goes out the window.

By being so over the top, Caesars Palace sort of embraces the American whack job persona more than Mirage or Bellagio. The movie The Hangover takes place there, right? The tone would not have worked at Bellagio or Mirage.

Here's a pic of the headboard from my last stay at Caesars Palace. Upgraded Octavius room even... Pretty classy huh?

Eh... I don't let stuff like this bother me but I did show the pic to the front desk. The thing is just about every hotel room you check into now has at least one or two serious issues, so if you change rooms you're just swapping one set of problems for another.

My point is that Caesars LV properties generally suck. After the Horseshoe room (supposedly in Paris hotel) debacle, never again.

Here's a recent one from Caesars New Orleans - Harrah's Hotel. The whole vanity top was nearly broken off in the back.

It happens so often I don't even report this stuff anymore. I just take a pic of anything I notice once we get into the room, so hopefully the time/date stamp will be enough to prove we didn't do it.

This was in the Pac NW, not LV, but I recall staying in a hovel that had several unrepaired bullet holes in the wall.

All their properties are dated and run down. This is the chair currently in one of their spa suites in Lake Tahoe.

Well the place opened in 1971.

Wanna guess how many times they’ve replaced the chairs from 1971 through now ho ho?

Only been to Tahoe once. I was surprised at how dated the Caesars' properties looked. Harvey's almost reminded me of Harrah's Laughlin.

Yeah, I totally get that! I suppose it’s quite popular, and people make a big deal out of it, but once you are there, you do not really get the idea. The feel is good, however, there are other where’s in Vegas which may be more entertaining or at least give a good experience at the price.

Other than the view of the lake and the surrounding mtns., is there any other reason to gamble at South Lake Tahoe?

    Not really no.

The properties there do have good free play.

Some people come for the skiing.

    Hmm...I ski...

Are there many ski packages with airfare, transportation, accomodations and lift tickets?

    That could be fun.
