Thread: Coyotes alert

  1. #1
    Hello,
I just came back from Harrah's last night.
On the way back on 76 freeway, I encountered a pack
Of coyotes crossing slowly and hit one!
I saw a couple more before this pack came out
Of nowhere. I have a dent in the front of my car!
    Be careful driving there...

    Wow!

Just curious, was this west or east of Pala?

Many times GPS systems tell you to go south on I-15 and get off on 76 to get to Harrah's (from the LA area), but it is better to get off on the 79 and go toward Pechanga, eventually landing at the 76 in Pala.

West. It was near freeway 5 entrance.

I have never seen a pack of coyotes but I can understand it. You are in the mountains. "Road kill" is frequently seen. Besides the wild life, there is also the danger of rock slides as you drive on these narrow roads that were cut out of the hills. But the biggest danger is other drivers -- I personally avoid driving around 2-am when the "last call drivers" have decided to go home.

That drive is actually pretty scary in both directions. I'm always afraid some depressed/tired/drunk gambler is going to plow into me, or one of those big buses will lose control and nail me head-on.

Maybe go the other way next time to avoid the coyotes on that side of the 76: http://mapq.st/1bpHX9H

I will try the alternate route.
Pechanga is starting to look appealing.
I love Pala and Harrah's but I don't enjoy that drive.
Pauma was actually pretty nice too, thanks for the tip, Alan.
I would take those buses but I don't trust their maintenance schedule
and they don't make casino hopping possible.

I feel like I am risking my life every time I drive up that windy road.

Those buses are terrible. They are slow, you are on their schedule, and they pretty much control you. I wouldn't advise taking them unless you are too old to drive anymore.

Next time stay the night and drive back in the morning. Much safer. The road from Pechanga to Pala is winding and the lighting is slim to none.

I would describe it as the road you only wish they would have a grand prix race on.

Oh no, I would drive straight to Pechanga from my home in OC.
I actually really like Harrah's and Pala much better.
I love the new Starbucks at Harrah's and I like BJ at Pala.
I guess I will use those comped rooms next time.

There is nothing wrong with Pechanga. They still have the "full pay" video poker games (yes, I said full pay) and they have some nice restaurants. My complaints about Pechanga are these:

    1. way toooo big. The biggest casino in the Western US and bigger than anything in Vegas.
    2. Everyone smokes (at least that's how it seems)
    3. They cut back on my offers after I hit two $20K royals just a few weeks apart
    4. Pechanga is independent and your play there won't help you anywhere else

But Pechanga is the most convenient of the casinos in the area just a couple of minutes off the I-15 and plenty of free parking, also free valet.

Their BJ rules are not so great.
Congrats on the royals! I guess they figured they paid you enough!

I am not a BJ player. I also don't like their version of "card craps" but ironically some former dealers and floormen from Caesars Palace work at Pechanga.
