    It occurred around 1am tonight.

It is not clear if this was an accident of some sort, or something done on purpose. As of now, nobody has been arrested.

Aw man, Vegas is so fucked up right now. First there is the Bellagio Murder Tragedy and now an explosion in front of Planet Hollywood on Vegas Blvd. Luckily no injuries have been reported yet. Hopefully there ARE no injuries. Hopefully the person who sid the explosion is stupid enough to brag about their crime online on Social Media like so many Idiots do and get arrested, booked, and jailed.

The two incidents are very different. The first, the shooting last week just happened to occur on the strip because it was known that is where the guy was. If he had posted he was going to a sporting event or concert or something else, then THAT is where it would have occurred. But he posted he was in Las Vegas and that almost assuredly meant the strip on a weekend night, so that is where he was found and shot.

Now this incident early this morning is more troubling to me. I was not far away inside a casino. I heard or felt nothing. Didn't know about it until people started talking about it inside the casino. But after returning home, seeing the news and thinking about it this morning, I have to ask myself if I really want to continue put myself on the strip on weekend nights where and when this shit is happening.

For the past several years that is how I play, seeking out the busier times (and that means weekend nights). Do I really want to continue to do so. I mean you accept that playing the busier periods means you deal with more pick-pocket type crime. More drunkenness and fights and scuffles. You don't expect shootings and explosive devices intentionally set off. Really something to think about.

Then avoid walking the sidewalk on the strip when playing the casinos on the east side of the strip: enter from Koval or whatever rear street works for you if you are parking there, or take the monorail.

Yeah, not really the solution MrV. It isn't like when you go to your nearby casino where you live and once you park, in the garage or Valet park and get inside, you are set for the trip until you leave. When playing the strip, I have to visit and play multiple casinos. And that means walking the strip between casinos.

Like I said, I don't consider this incident this morning the same as last weeks shooting. I think of it more like the explosion on New Years Eve at the Trump Property or a couple years ago a motorist intentionally drove up on the sidewalk mowing people down (also in front of Paris). I guess you would call these things terrorists acts (although not entirely sure what this mornings was about) And terrorist attacks specifically target populated areas at populated times.

I specifically avoid certain areas...high crime and violence areas at certain times. I won't go downtown to Fremont street on a weekend night. I don't go to other ghetto/drug areas late at night or weekend nights. You avoid these areas at these times. Yet, the way I play for the past few years, specifically places me on the strip on weekend nights. I am just saying if these kinds of incidents continue, I am going to have to re-think that.

Not good for tourism either. Are people going to want to continue to come to Las vegas if there are shooting and explosive devices going off every weekend?

Yikes at you being in a Casino on the strip close by at the time the explosion happened! I know it's not exactly the same thing but a Woman around my age was Murdered doing something I do on a constant basis. She got suddenly pushed in front of a Metro Rail Train. She was RANDOMLY picked to be pushed in front of the Metro Rail Train by some crazy man! He bragged to Police that he pushed her in front of the Metro Rail Train, no remorse! I constantly ride the Metro Rail Train myself and I thought, "That could have easily been ME who got Murdered by being pushed in front of the Metro Rail Train!

KJ, put it in perspective: you're a gambler, and whenever we go out in public, especially in a high profile area like the strip, there is a chance that something bad will happen.

Shootings, explosions...hell, that nut job mowed down scores of innocents from Mandalay.

It comes down to this: "What are the odds? "

What are the odds? Well they are higher if you put yourself in the area where these things happen regularly. And THAT is the point.

Back when I lived in Philly, there was an area "called Kensington Avenue" that was the notorious drug/prostitution/murder/crime area. Kensington Ave and the surrounding area was known as "the badlands". Although there were several police stations in the area, they basically shut their doors come night fall and literally stopped responding to calls (except maybe a murder) until daybreak. Literally, if someone called reporting someone was breaking into their home at 1am, the police would show up at 9am and not before.

I suppose every city, including your Portland has areas that are high crime like this. there is just no reason to put yourself on Kensington Avenue at 2am , or any other higher risk area. And if these things continue to occur on the strip, I will say the same thing. No reason to put yourself there. Just like I don't put myself downtown on weekend nights. AND THAT is playing the odds.

So…I was ALMOST witness to this.

Currently in Vegas staying very close. In town for the Kenny Chesney show at the Sphere last night. Which I will say is a venue that words cannot describe. I’ve seen Kenny close to 50 times over the years and nothing came close to this because of the venue. Anyways.

Walked back after the show and as someone who isn’t on the strip that late often I was shocked by the crowd. Mostly minority with what I call thugs everywhere. Everyone has a hustle but these guys are opening pitching anything you want. And the ho’s wearing the ugliest clothes from discount stores with their assets half out. Not sure how drunk someone has to be to fuck most of them.

So I get back to hotel, sit at the bar to play some VP and decide I’m beat and hungry. It’s 12:55 and I debate what closes at 1 and what is still open. Thought of walking over to Chik Fil A at Planet Hollywood but found the burger place here is open until 2 so I decided to stay in. Now I almost wish I wanted the chicken more just to see this.

But yea, the strip at night isn’t what I remember it as.

Turns out it was just some idiot throwing fireworks out of the car, which ended up causing this fire and sounding like an explosion.

It appears he was careful to throw it where nobody stood, hence there being zero injuries.

They haven't caught the suspect yet. It is assumed to be a prank, and not politically motivated or aimed at Planet Hollywood itself.
