Thread: AI company founder, who is attempting to upend the real estate brokerage business in Las Vegas, receives severed pigs head in the the mail

  1. #1
Blake Owens is CEO of Agrippa, an AI real estate firm which claims it will forever change the real estate brokerage model.

He claims to have received a package in the mail with a severed bloody pigs head, and a threatening note:

Here is a picture of Owens. The "Clark Kent knockoff" line is kinda funny:

I think it's possible this was a hoax, and Owens sent it to himself, in order to draw attention to his firm.

This especially looks suspect because of the line which reads, "We did it the hard way, no shortcuts, no tech." That sounds like an advertisement for Owens' company, not a complaint from an angry broker.

The pigs head is also very cliche, straight out of a mob movie.

I also thought,"This is straight out of the Godfather movie, except it is a pig head in the bed and not a horse. " If he did in fact sent this hoax to himself he will be rightfully ragged and dragged for pulling this threatening stunt on himself.

On a side note, anyone else notice that the pig looks like he or she is smiling when he or she got MURDERED?

Yes I did notice the pig looks like it is smiling.

How do you know it was murdered though?

It might have died from natural causes & then had its head cut off after it was already deceased.

Going to go out on a limb and predict police will be announcing criminal charges against this guy within a week.

The threatening note writer couldn't decide between one word or two for "Lululemon" -- so he did a half-space and hoped no one would notice.

Could be murder, could be suicide.

The Big Beautiful Bill is designed to "get rid of pork," so either a gov't "hit squad" popped the pig or Porky saw the handwriting on the sty and said "Fuck it, I'm out of here.'

If a hoax, at least he might have gained something out of it, publicity that might help his business. Whereas UNKewlJ's

This guy is a retard if he thinks he is going to get anything but ridicule from this story. Maybe he thinks the publicity will help him start a business. I doubt it will help. I can't imagine many people would want to go into business with this flake.

He could be playing some third level metagame where we are the retards and we don't understand what is really going on here.

Yep, this could be another Jussie Smollett type of hoax where although Jussie didn't threaten himself, he was no victim, he was in on the hoax all along because he wanted attention and sympathy. The thing is, Jussie was a celebrity. Blake Owens is just a random CEO. The truth will be revealed if Blake threatened himself in order to garner attention and sympathy.

Probably fake but you never know.

If people recall when Ebay harassed the elderly couple that had a small newsletter by sending them a bloody pigs mask, death threats etc.

Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.

I think whether the thing is a hoax or not, the letter makes him look like a douche bag. The final development of AI is a big milestone soon, the way things can be understood will be mapped out forever.

The more I think about it, the more I think it's unlikely that this "threat" really came from brokers.

Highest likelihood is that dude sent it to himself.

Second highest is that it came from a former business partner, employee, or friend.

The main problem is that the tone and language don't match up with that of an angry broker. A real letter would be more insulting, more critical, and more threatening. This letter almost praises Owens and his company ("enjoy your moment while it lasts") and concedes that the old way of doing things was inefficient ("no shortcuts, no tech, we did it the hard way").

The supposed insult of "Clark Kent knockoff", while funny, is very gentle. An actual angry person attempting to insult him would call him something like "effeminate four eyed dork", but if he wrote it to himself for purposes of publicity, he wouldn't want to be known that way.

The line "real estate wasn't built by developers or investors -- it was built by brokers" is also something a real broker would unlikely think or say. Investors and developers are complementary to brokers, not the competition.

In short, it really reads like a pseudo-threatening letter which somehow still heaps backdoor praise, and is especially gentle when it comes to any criticism of Owens, his company, or his looks. Smells deeply like bullshit.

Strangely enough, I got the following anonymous letter in the mail today, which also appears to be threatening me.

When I first read about this in the NYP I assumed it was genuine because of the risk involved in faking it. A few commenters thought it was a hoax but I thought they were being paranoid.

But when I read you article here expressing the possibility it clicked for me.

I think the problem is that for someone to react in such an extreme way to a mere startup suggests they are genuinely unhinged, but the execution of the threat (including the contents of the note) seem too lucid and much too media friendly.

Perfectly legible black block letters that you can easily read from a photo? No rambling, crossed out text, spelling errors, spilling into the margins?

Also, the very opening sentence feels the need to explain how the writer knows his address? If the purpose is to threaten this guy rather than to be believed to be genuine by third parties, why bother to explain how you got the address?

And the undue concern with the guys appearance with "insults" that are not really insults when if the writer were genuine he would have to be outraged to have gone to this length. This doesn't even seem like an actual attempt to stop him. If you're going to go this far why not make actual death threats?

Assume that guy did it or had a friend.

The thing is if he words it like this and is caught then I don't think he'd actually get in trouble. Or his accomplice. If he didn't make a police report what crime is here? Mailing a dead pigs head is against the USPS code? (if that is how it was shipped)

edit - Now if he legitimately threatened himself or something like then perhaps? There just is no real threat.
