Covid??? Is that still a thing?

here, I will Give you KJ haters something to root for. I am in week 3 (and hopefully nearing the end) of another covid battle. To be honest, I though Covid was a thing of the past. I know it is out there but more like a common cold.

Anyway, 3 weeks ago, over Labor Day, I traveled to Pa for my autumn blackjack trip, to go to the Eagles opening game and visit friends and distant family. So it was Tuesday, the day after Labor day. My brother and I were supposed to meet up with some distant relatives in North Jersey that I hadn't seen since I was a kid. He had never met them. I woke up with what I thought was a stomach virus and had to cancel.

By the next day, I had the cold like symptoms. A lot of coughing deep down in my lungs. I made it to the Eagles game, but really didn't feel very well. And the following day was travel day back home.

By mid week last week, I was getting sicker and sicker. fever, coughing up what felt like a lung. had some difficulty breathing. I hadn't really thought about covid, just thought it was a bad cold. But then I decided to take a home covid test. (still had some that weren't expired). It registered positive. I took a second to verify the next morning.

So I called my doctor and told him I had been sick for 9 days (at that point) and had just tested positive for covid and asked what we could do. He said "nothing". Paxlovid that you see on Tv has to be started within 3-4 days of symptoms. he said to try to rest and get through what was left of the virus. and if I had trouble breathing to go to the ER.

Well I had to go out last weekend because I was working on this 1st 2 weeks NFL play and needed to hit some sports books in Vegas. So that didn't help. And the symptoms did not get better. Only yesterday and today, a full 15-16 days after first symptoms am I starting to feel better.

So I guess covid is still around and doing it's thing.

BTW, I am fully vaxed, last covid vax last fall when I got my flu shot. And I do have asthma, fairly recently diagnosed as acid reflux induced asthma. So I guess that puts me in higher risk group. My brother, nor BF got sick.

So that is my new covid story. rejoice all you haters! and beware of that 2019 Chinese virus.

You arguably should not have done that, given the fact your were contagious and could have spread it to others.

"Arguably"? I don't think there is much of an argument to be made. I shouldn't have gone out. Should have sent a proxy.

But really, my brother was with me in Pa when I first had symptoms. My BF has been with me since I got home 12 days ago. neither got sick, but both probably had the virus and were able to spread it. That is how viruses work. They are out there and people are going to be spreading them.

I first got covid back at the very beginning, March 2020. Just a couple days before Las Vegas Casinos shut down. And I know exactly where I got it. I was eating at the D casino restaurant and there was a lady coughing pretty heavily. I said "oh this isn't good", but didn't leave like I probably should have. I few days later casinos were closed and I was sick. And I got pretty sick. Was having trouble breathing but was afraid to go to the hospital, because hospitals were full of people with covid dying at that time.

Next time I got covid was a year later. Was vaccinated by that time, plus should have had some natural immunity. That case was much more mild, just like a little cold and only lasted a few days IIRC.

I have gotten the vaccination every year since, but thought covid had dwindled to just a cold like little virus. And maybe it has, but it really knocked me for a loop. But like I said, I have asthma and I guess that can make a virus or even cold worse.

You don't hear anything about covid on the news anymore, which is why I didn't even think to test for it until 8-9 days in.

I have a thread on Diversity Tomorrow that I started called,"Is COVID over?" I started that thread after the mandates were over , shutdowns and lockdowns were over,the governments declaring COVID was no longer a worldwide emergency, etc. I mentioned that I STILL didn't think it was completely over. I mentioned that U STILL gave chilling death glares to people who coughed and sneezed near me. I NEVER thought COVID went away and to this day I am STILL wearing my masks and giving chilling death glares to people who cough and sneeze near me.

This is not meant as a joke at KJ's expense. There has been quite the change in KJ over the last few years. We all know of his heart problems and his bout with covid. He is bound to have suffered from a lack of oxygen to the brain multiple times, especially with the covid. And that has obviously caused some major mental deterioration as we all have witnessed in his postings. He no longer can remember simple facts and gets confused. I have nothing against KJ but it is hard to ignore the deterioration of his mental faculties.

I'm STILL upset with Kewlj over sharing my private message to him on the public part of VCT, but I will say that Kewlj said he didn't know he had COVID when he went to the Eagles game. He thought it was the common cold.

Well that is a little different than what you originally said. People should turn their heads and/or cover their mouth. That is just common courtesy. But you shouldn't be glaring at people just because they cough. If you are really THAT paranoid, you should stay home.

This is correct. When I was in Pa I thought I had a cold. I went to the Eagles game. And flew home the next day. And ran around Vegas placing bets the first NFL weekend. It wasn't until midway through the next week (One week ago today) that I tested for covid. And while I did go out Saturday, to place bets at sportsbooks, knowing I had covid, it was 11 days in at that point. I though the contagious period was over. I thought the contagious period was like 4-5 days after you first see symptoms. In looking it up, that may not be accurate.

While riding my bike today a negligent driver caused me to "lay it down' in emergency fashion.

Lots of road rash but also immediate pain and swelling to my left hip and elbow.

X-rays showed no fracture to the hip but two broken bones in my elbow.

Surgery is required.

Shit..and it was a good day til then.

Don't you guys have bike paths off the busy roadways? Vegas has a really good system of off road bike paths. I think at one time Shackleford put together a map of bike Paths in Vegas. You could get almost anywhere in the valley without spending much time on actual roads.

Kew, it's not surprising seeing you getting sick yet again.....all those vaccines, bad habits, risky behaviors and all. We've traveled back & forth across the country twice the past 4 months, and we haven't had any issues at all thus far.

Let me guess--you don't use a paper towel to protect your hands from everyone else's germs when you gas up--probably shortly afterwards shoveling chips or other foods down, carelessly ingesting whatever was on everyone else's hands that gassed up before you; you share remotes, don't wash your hands after touching community door handles etc., and freely use salt & pepper shakers, ketchup etc. in restaurants without using hand sanitizer afterwards, and never disinfect your hands after touching menus--which are filthier than toilet seats. On & on.

People get what they ask for when they don't care about hygiene or being careful in the nasty world we live in today. And with your compromised, weak immune system along with love of sitting at bj tables with other coughers & sneezers, you're gonna continue to get worse bouts of colds and viruses going forward. All because you won't take better care of yourself.
