Thread: A thread for losses.

For the critic who says I only post about "wins" I want to make you aware that on Sunday at Rincon I lost.

I mention this because there are a couple of forum members who have become increasingly critical of me for reporting my wins.

Well yes, I think the "wins" are "newsworthy" especially on a thread such as the one we have here for big casino wins.

But I also lose. To be honest, I lose more than I win. I have never claimed a winning year in casinos... though this year is still looking good despite Sunday's loss. It wasn't a big loss, but it was still a loss and a loss I wish I didn't have.

Was I ever ahead? Well, on the first $100 bill I put into a $5 Aces and Faces game I drew a straight which paid $125 so yes, at one point I was ahead.

So for the record, on Sunday, I lost.

Alan: I don't know why people would want to criticize your jackpot photos on your own forum. I get a kick out of seeing your latest jackpot photos so post 'em all you want! We all know the brutal nature of VP games & how the losses stack up in between those jackpots, anyway..

This reminds me. The Horseshoe in Shreveport has signs posted everywhere that no photographs are to be taken on the casino flooor. It has me curious as it just started last week and it makes me wonder if they read the forum posts.

    Alan,

Keep posting your wins. As a fan of the forum I like to see all the people win and the jackpots that they are lucky enough to hit. I really wish that all the people who play VP had a chance to win some sizable jackpots. It's a great feeling to win and it's also nice to see other people win as well. We know that the Casino wins plenty enough so the bottom line is, it's nice to see the patrons take home a winning or two. I wish I had some pictures to share. Well that's my take. Good luck and keep posting!

Don't we need video proof that you lost?

The Horseshoe in Hammond Indiana will not allow pictures. There are no signs but if anyone sees you taking pictures they will try to stop you.

Easy enough to sneak a picture although I'm sure the "sky" sees it.

I like to read about the wins as I know most people show a loss when gambling. When I go to a casino I know I will more then likely come out with less money then I went with. The last 2 years I have had more then my share of luck.

My feeling is someone with lots of w2g’s for the year will almost always have a loss, where someone with one is probably a winner. I don’t know if I will ever perfect knowing when to quit.

This last Saturday at Harrah’s Resort I played more in one day then I ever have. Went out for a few hours, or so I thought. After 11 hours of play, 8 w2g’s, over 14,000 tier points (before the 10k bonus) and a call to my host for a room, I ended the day with my biggest loss of the year.

    More wins and fewer losses!

I can top that!! I once finished a weekend at Caesars with 14 W2Gs and a loss!

I think the "champ" of "winning but losing" still rests with my son: five $1 royals (including one progressive for $4,300) in 24 hours and zero money to show for it.
    We laugh about it.

    Ouch!

I’m taking my mom to Vegas this weekend for the shopping event. My plan is no w2g’s and a win.

This was what I had in mind when I switched to playing 8/5 Aces and Faces and 8/5 Bonus at the $1 and $2 levels. And when I get a royal I am very happy to deal with the W2G. Yes, it is possible to finish with a profit playing the 8/5 games with a little luck.

Just curious about the state income tax in your respective states. In Illinois, we are taxed 5% on the "GROSS" win. So those w-2's kill us. No offset for losses.

California follows the IRS. You are taxed on net wins. Yes, losing California lottery tickets can be used to offset any gambling wins. And there is no California state income tax on California lottery wins (not that I've had any).

FIVE royals in 24 hours and still lost overall? How is that possible? I've played off-and-on for over 12 years and my personal best days (several of those days) were two royals in 24 hours. All those days showed at least a decent profit even when I played heavily.

After a little thought on it I can see where this is definitely possible with multi-line games. This escaped my consideration in my earlier post (which I couldn't edit).

It was single line games. He was playing for almost 20 hours. He hit the royals playing $1 VP but after the royals he moved up to $5 and $10 VP where he lost most or nearly all of it. Then returning to $1 Bonus (he was playing bonus mostly the entire time) he got lucky again... only to move back to $5 and $10 VP and give it all back.

He hit the first royal on a progressive at the Gold Strike in Jean on the way up to Vegas. It was for about $4,300. When he hit it I said to him "do you want to go home?" He said no, that we came to go to Vegas. I said to him "don't lose it in Vegas."

    Famous words.

Thanks for sharing that, Alan. Hope I wasn't being too nosey, but the five royals in one day on single-line VP really blew my mind. That would have been a transcendent gambling experience for me. It's a good thing you put Rob "on ice" for a while because I am pretty sure he would have had less than a kind assessment of the story you just shared. At least you & your son had a good laugh over the whole thing.

Yep, and we still talk about to this day. We've all had sessions when we had big wins and then lost. Well... all of us except His Holiness.
