I am sorry. I actually choked on this one.

After his college career, Warner was out of football, as is now somewhat famously know, he was bagging grocers at a grocery store for $5 and hour. he made his way back to football where he played in Europe for a couple years. I guess he did ok and made his way back to the NFL where in 1998 he was 3rd string QB for the Rams.

The following year 1999 (which would have been superbowl year) Warner moved to second string after the second string QB left in free agency. And when the starter went down for the year in Preseason, Kurt Warner, a couple years removed from bagging groceries became the Rams starting QB.

THAT is a great story. And it is also the Bob Dietz story because our hero Deitz saw the possibilities of Warner, when no one else did. Perhaps Dietz has witness Warner spiral a pineapple through the produce department and instantly knew Warner was bound for greatness. So much so, that Dietz, who by all accounts never had much money to his name, was willing to bet big bucks on a longshot superbowl futures bet that could pay for a house.

You know what? In hindsight, even though the money doesn't top Singer or dawgs story, this just may be the greatest story ever told on VCT. Well of course THIS and 18 y.o.'s in a row. (rest in peace Alan)

ya know, on this forum people have labeled me the Gambling internet police and other such names. I never intended to be that. But I just can't sit silently while people make these kind of ridiculous claims, beginning with a guy on a blackjack forum claiming an advantage 5 x what is even possible with card counting, through Singer, Thru dawg, and now redietz winning enough money to buy a house betting a 300-1 shot on a grocery bagger.

Is it really too much to ask for gambling claims to be more realistic and mathematically possible than these fantastical claims are?

I almost feel bad that I went after Moses. The only thing ridiculous about his claims is the location he claimed to have done it. You can't do what he claimed in Reno. If he had claimed Las Vegas, he could have pulled it off. But in Moses defense I think he made the claim first when he moved to Reno after his divorce and then tried to fulfill it. (kind of backwards). And he couldn't bring himself to come clean until the very end.

But the point is just stop with all the fantastical shit. Winning gambling (AP play) is a grind. Not all as much a grind as card counting, but still a grind. A slow steady process. Not the ridiculous things we are reading about here in Dan Druff land. This stuff belongs on the fiction forum for writers that Dawg owns and posts at.

KJ, I don't find redietz's claim to be outlandish.

    He got lucky.

    Luck happens.

Not an AP, just got lucky.

Of course, reaching this conclusion assumes he is being truthful, which you seem to doubt.

To some extent yes MrV. But he made the initial post trying to boost his claim of expertise in sportsbetting, which there really doesn't appear to be much.

And then bizarrely, when you look at details like the house was purchase before the bet would have been paid, it looks even less credible.

But I will tell you what MrV, if Bob Dietz wants to amend his claim to indicate that he just got shit lucky like and less about any expertise as a sports better, I will try my best to not mention it again. I will mark the gambling police case as "closed" or suspended.

Still have to wonder how an ostensibly successful guy got behind on paying his real estate tax when due.

Oh well, life is filled with mysteries...

I asked that over at GF. redietz gave a reason. It didn't make much sense to me especially paying a 10% late fee. I am not going to repeat it. That is his story to tell if he wants.

But on the surface, it doesn't speak well to being a successful sports bettor. Just like bankruptcies, and evictions, and legal judgements don't seem to fit with winning millions from casinos, like Rob claims.

I was even "shit luckier" than KewlJ realizes. If he had the ability to read sports tickets, he'd have seen...oh, wait a sec, this deserves it's own thread, the "Shit Lucky" thread.
