There's your analogy to gambling sessions and results. Long term results are only there for a measurement and stats for others to talk about. They are history. The only important statistic is the next game's result and Tom Brady's next game completion rate. And once that game is over he can enjoy the win or whine about the loss for a week, but it is forever over. A new individual game is coming up.

That's the point. The IRS looks at annual results, and it wants daily logs. So those are your "sessions:" daily and annual.

There is and never has been "income averaging" for casino play. (By the way, there was a time when you could "income average" your taxes to save money in years when you had a big income. But the IRS did away with that about 20 years ago.) What happened last year no longer affects what will happen this year or next year. So casino gaming is not and never can be one long continuous session -- at least when it comes to the U.S. Government.

You can continue saying it's one long continuous session but it just won't fly with the IRS.

First it was "big wins don't mean you're a winner" then he goes into a childish rant about how you can't be ahead, ever. This is the profile of a loser. He can't stand that others win. I ran into this all the time at Gaming Today. The whiny ap's would call the publisher and send me hate emails.
