Thread: Big Casino Wins and Jackpots

It's huge with three levels. Imagine all of Caesars Palace -- the Palace Casino and the Forum Casino -- filled with poker tables. And on the second and third floors are the tournament areas. Plus their own hotel and restaurants.

What many people don't realize is that LA really is the poker capital of the world.

This isn't mine -- it's Jason's. He played Mississippi Stud (table card game, like video poker) at Commerce Casino near LA last night. His buy-in was $400. He moved up in denomination as he won. His biggest win on the night was a flush which paid about $3600 and he was betting $100 chips at the time.

The photo is of his rack when he colored up and left the table. The white chips are $100 chips. He had a profit of about $9100 on the night and there was no "hole carding" or any other advantage play involved -- just smart betting based on his dealt cards.

About a year ago Jason hit a $20,000 royal at Commerce at the same game -- they have a table limit on the jackpot and $20K was it. He was also betting $100 chips at the time and if not for the table cap he would have won $50-thousand.
It was a very fun evening.

Most Mississippi Stud games have a max of $50,000. If one gets a Royal it pays 500 times each bet. So with a $10 ante if you are dealt two Royal cards you must bet $30 on to see 3rd street. Continue betting max so you get $100 bet to get the max payout.

When I got the Royal I was betting $100 on the anti. I was dealt AT diamonds. Bet $100 on 3rd, $100 on 4th.... At this point I have 4 to the Royal. I asked the other player for a minute because I was thinking of betting $300 on 5th street even though I knew the table cap only needed a total $40 wager with a Royal. I was doing this for a flush (to pay $3,600) or a paying pair which would then pay $600 as well. I was lucky enough to get the Royal. They immediately plopped down two racks of $100 chips and I went right to the players bank.

If there was no cap it would have paid $300,000.00 with the total $600 I had wagered. From what I understand it was the largest amount that would have potentially been won on a single hand at Commerce.

I was disappointed to find out you can ask the floor personal to raise the table limits by paying extra collection (a $1 fee paid for each hand). One extra dollar would have gotten me an extra $20K.

It is a very fun game.

California casinos (poker casinos) use white chips for $100. At least the bike, Commerce, and Hollywood park.

I only had one big hand which was the flush Alan speaks of. Everything else was a few pairs, two pairs, and a few trips. I played for about 6 or 7 hours.

I wanted to fill a rack and then I was out of there... I had my rack filled with 100 x $100 chips but had to break one to tip the dealer ($25 for a $3000 three of a kind with 3 tens on the board (I had J8 suited)). Played one more hand and just about ran out of there...with a security guard walking me to the car.

My third time with a multi thousand dollar take on this game at Commerce.

I love the game it is a lot of fun. Can get expensive if you chase, but very rarely do I see 3rd street which is why I can justify the $100 anti.

I think of it like holdem... You get dealt pocket pairs every 17 hands... After I see about 17 hands I up my bet. Usually works out as pairs 6-A you can bet max...

Chumash has this game with no cap... But they only let you bet $25 anti... Max possible wager is $250. A Royal in this instance would be $125,000 which I plan on hitting one of these days... Only played there once.

Congrats. I've seen 3 people get royals on MS. So far for me, I haven't been able to squeak out better than quads. But as you guys know, I'm picky with who we play against :-)

A lot of places around the country only have a $25 max bet. $100 is out there but not as common. One casino in the east used to be a $500 max.

Last night (Saturday night) one of our forum members sent me a text message that included a free burger coupon at a restaurant we both like. I called him to thank him and quickly the conversation turned to casinos. I told him I hadn't been to Rincon since September, and I only go to Vegas now and only once a month. And then we both got "the tickle" and I suggested we drive up to play a little craps. We've done this before -- just get in the car and drive and play a few hours.

I insisted that this would be only a "craps session" with NO video poker and I said if I so much as walk towards a VP machine IF I HAVE LOST AT CRAPS to tackle me and drag me out of the casino.

Well, he didn't have to drag me out. I won at craps.

We went to Bellagio because I really like their craps tables the best -- and better than Caesars. I hit the Small, the Tall and the ALL with $25 on each. 35-to-1, plus 35-to-1, plus 175-to-1 were the payoffs. I admit it wasn't on my first turn with the dice but during the few hours I played my roll was "looking good" and I was hitting numbers and making passes.

The photo below shows my "final number" (yo-11) which gave me the Tall and completed the All. Earlier I had hit the Small and had been paid which is why the $25 "small bet" chip is no longer on the layout. I was the only player at the table, and forum member John was there for moral support.

This was the fourth time that I made the ALL at Bellagio but the first time when betting $25 on all three positions. The three previous ALL wins were with $5 bets on all three positions.

After cashing out I tried some $1 7/5 Bonus poker for a few hundred. No quads, three full houses, two flushes and overall a very unexciting and short time playing VP.

Cashing out the chips from the craps table was not easy. I walked from the table with about $6600 including a $5,000 chip and the cashier needed to verify my table game play before releasing the money. Unfortunately, I left the craps table only sixty seconds earlier and my play was not in the system. The cashier called the craps pit and a floor person actually had to walk to the cage to verify I won the chips in order for a payment.

I have had similar experiences at other casinos. It seems they want to verify you actually played to be sure you are not cashing chips for someone who owes on a marker, and to be sure you didn't steal the chips.

Becoming normal procedure with $5k chips. Even $1k and $500 at some places. Nice win BTW.

You are correct. At Caesars Palace if you present a $1,000 chip at the cage they will ask you about markers. If you present $500 or smaller chips they will not ask you. Sometimes the craps dealers will give you $500 chips and tell you they are doing it so you won't be troubled at the cage with questions.

    Hi Alan:

Congratulations on the features bet. Do you always bet $25 on all three nowadays? Looks like your entire win was caused by the features bet. These kinds of stories, particularly craps stories, are a big reason I log onto this forum. By contrast, I am running out of patience seeing all the recent adolescent boasting about whose balance sheet is larger. Looks like grown up men acting like they were still in middle school.

I bet Alan hit 17 more yo's (in a row) right after that. Hehe, jk.

Out of curiosity, Alan, do you record your dice numbers (or tosses or whatever)? When you say, "I hit..." do you mean you were throwing the dice and hit the ALL, or you had placed an ALL wagered and the shooter (not you) threw the 10 required numbers before a 7?

  9. #1849
When I say I hit the ALL four times I meant I was shooting. I've never been at a table when another shooter hit the ALL but other shooters have hit the Small or the Tall.

I don't record my numbers rolled. The only thing I care about is minimizing the 7s which is what the cross sixes set is supposed to do.

    Caesars Palace Hit and Run

Early Friday morning... like around 5am... I left home to pick up forum member John (ke6cdh) for a quickie drive up to Caesars Palace. A few days ago John went with me on a hit and run to Bellagio where I hit the ALL at craps... and Friday afternoon John hit the ALL at Caesars. John has been practicing his shooting with the "hardways set." On his first turn with the dice he hit the ALL. The last number needed was the Yo (11). My ALL bet is shown on the layout -- John's was paid first and his ALL bet was removed as was his Small and Tall and my Small and Tall were removed also after they were paid out. See the photo below showing only my $5 ALL remaining which had not yet been paid.

This is the first time I won an ALL bet thrown by another player and this was the first time John hit the ALL.

John and I were the only players betting the Small, Tall, All -- and the table was full. But after John's hit about half the table started betting the STA but most were betting $1 or $2 on each position. The table minimum was $10.

We both had a win on our little jaunt. No other players hit the ALL during the four hours I was at the craps table, but several players hit either the Small or the Tall.

This might be a little disappointing for Total Rewards members: my average bet at craps was rated at $260 for 4-hours, 10-minutes. When my session was over I check my tier points at a machine and found I earned 1,018 tier points and only $30 in comps. That's really disappointing: more than 4 hours with a $260 average bet and only $30 in comps earned. It's a good thing John and I only drove up there to play a few hours and didn't stay overnight or go to a restaurant because we didn't earn comps for anything more than a dessert.

Edited by moderator. Slobdinger forgot that he said he wouldn't post here anymore. It's been fixed so he doesn't have to worry about forgetting again.

Nice hit Alan. What is the "hardways set"? Maybe you do have some "dice influencing" ability. Wasn't it not too long ago you hit the "ALL" bet?

I don't think CET values the action of craps betters.

Now I understand why a friend of mine must put in a series of lengthy shifts at that level to make Diamond. That's a lot of work.

Red, can you PM me please? Thank you.

John was the shooter-- he was throwing the dice and I went along for the ride as he hit the ALL.

The hardways set has the dice arranged to show 22, 33, 44, 55 on the outside faces.

With the 44 and 55 it wouldn't make a difference, but what about the 22 33 and 66? Are the dots for the numbers in a 'flying wedge' or parallel? Do you just alternate numbers or always throw with 55 or 44 up?

  19. #1859
John will have to comment. I use cross sixes set.
