I can't think of any reason to have someone's IP except to block it in case that participant became too much of a troublemaker.

Some posters are so prolific, controversial and circumventing that they guard against ANYTHING which might give them away. You will never discover who they really are. All sorts of system and other sellers. Sometimes, causing so much havoc behind the scenes that forum owners remember what they do see of them.

My initial far-fetched guess was that Emilio saw something which he saw before. The BaccaratForums.com became an epic battle between him over a couple of the actual posters there as the forum skyrocketed to advertising prominence, with upfront ads like the Wiz's. Until it mysteriously collapsed in a few short months, and never came back from "maintenance" in early 2013. You had to be there in real time to appreciate what was happening. I can't think of any other reason now. Or for the large number of posts required to be allowed to use, eg, the PM features at the new GF's.

Also, Emilio had a thing against anyone becoming too popular at BF's.
