There is a small race track about 15 minutes from there in Henderson Ky. It is a little dump in the middle of nowhere but runs a pretty decent short meet. Since there was nowhere to go for food or entertainment in a 15 mile radius of the track, I used to go to that casino. At that time, it was a multi-story deal and all the VP was in a dark corner in the basement. The whole Evansville area looked like the aftermath of nuclear war.
I looked it up on the internet and where Mickey visited and took pictures just opened last week. It had been a riverboat, and if it was near where the current place is per Google maps I never got that far West.
That whole area was depressing. I was only there once for a few days and the only free evening I remember having I walked around a Walmart or some superstore near my suburban hotel for something to do.
I'm laughing my ass off. The only thing my wife and I could find to do at night was walk around a liquor/grocery store, and it definitely wasn't an upscale type store.
I can only imagine. These days if there's not a casino to wander I stick to the Walmarts or KMarts, or if it's early enough larger chain stores or shopping malls, to avoid the whole odd local store where you stick out like a sore thumb and feel obliged to find something/anything to buy. Occasionally I find a local treasure though - like Jungle Jim's outside of Cincinnati, which is fun to wander around.
