That section of town needs to be gentrified.
What, Me Worry?
Must have been pretty bad if an Asian themed casino is closing up shortly before Chinese New Year.
North strip.
300 W. Sahara, near SLS
I've only been up that way a couple times, both to enjoy a great dinner with my wife at The Steakhouse at Circus Circus (of all places!), and the area is very, very sketchy.
Hell, here in Portland the hipsters have pretty much taken over the ghetto, displacing the blacks; I wonder why such shitty hovels are allowed to exist so close to the big league casinos?
One would think it would be desirous to bulldoze and redevelop into upscale condos or nice apartments, for example.
What, Me Worry?
Them blacks have to go somewhere meester V. Where did thEy go in Port Land.
Between SE 82nd and Gresham for the most part.
I suspect quite a few left town as rents have skyrocketed and they're mostly broke as a joke.

Challenge to redietz. We bet every NFL regular season game. You make the picks. If you lay the fav I get 2 extra points. If you take the dog I get a 2 point discount. Easy pickings for you.
Portland has a rep as "the whitest city in America."
The foundation for this was the Black Exclusion Laws.

I was there twice, both very brief visits. The first to collect my $7.77 freeplay as a new signup. And I don't even remember what the purpose of the second visit was. Both times I felt very unwelcome. Just had the feel that if you weren't Asian, you weren't really welcome. They barely made an effort to speak English.
If you have ever played Bighorn up in North Las Vegas (sister casino to Longhorn on boulder highway), it has the same feel. If you aren't Latino, you feel like you don't belong.
I riked the place. Sometime you felt like the only one in there. They didn't do orange chicken though.
I swear I made a post here about it....
Anyway, it was pretty much just bad all around. In summary --
They didn't have craps, I think the only "carny" game they had was UTH, unless you consider PGP a carny game. They didn't really have any high limit slots and not much in terms of video poker. Table games were empty lookin', too.
The place was always empty (customers) and lots of employees just doing....nothing.
They sent their mailers out TWO WEEKS into the month. That's ridiculous. I know some places have sent their mailers out a day or two into the month, but from my experience, that's either because it's some place really far away (like on the east coast and it takes an extra few days to get delivered to LV) or if it's a one-time-error from a casino and it's not the norm. One place even sent out an "apology mailer" and you could get your first and second week's offer during the second week.
I've eaten at the place upstairs a few times. Ocean Pearl or Blue Ocean or w/e it's called. The waiter couldn't explain to me what much of the food was in English, but he could describe it fine in Chinese (I don't speak Chinese). The food is "very Asian" and not round-eye-friendly.
Most of the people at the player's club booth hardly know English, although to be honest, I've only been to the PC booth.
It feels like the casino is just a group project for a few high school students in China, sort'a like the science fair or when you did the thing where you invest a fake $100,000 in the stock market in an economics class and track the ups and downs daily.
Funny, someone just recently advised me to go down and run play there in order to get comps.
Good thing I didn't.
(I don't blame the person for advising me of that, as no one had any idea it would abruptly close like this.)

Lucky Dragon had an incredibly generous mailer for a few months after they opened. I played $25k coin in once and was getting 4 x $200 every week. I knew people who were getting 4 x $300 every week. Unfortunately they noticed that most people were just picking up their free play and not playing and suspended a lot of accounts.
I wish I knew about this before they closed.... or at least a few months before they closed!
