The term skipper probably originated because when you dropped in 4 coins the coin counter would skip all the way to 5 instead of stopping on 4. The original video pokers were coin feeders with no credit meters. You had to feed in the coins and when you hit a pay the coins would drop to the tray. There were still some of these machines left, 9/6 Jacks, at the Pioneer/Laughlin in the late nineties. And yes, some of them skipped.
