Someone explain this one to me. My wife suddenly gets deathly ill, can't hold anything down and says she feels horrible. We go to the emergency room where they determine she needs transfusion for stomach virus. Our insurance is charged $8,000 and we're left with $400 out of our pockets- and oh, yeah- there was someone there while she was being taken care of to find out how we'd pay! We were charged $900 EACH for two rooms- I guess one must have been the xray room where she spent two minutes. To make a long story short, our physician said yeah, if it had been during the day for an office visit, our bill would have been $200. Who's responsible for outrageous discrepancy? Reminds me of the epi pen guy who went from $14 to $400.
