Thread: Road Pics

First, I thought I would show you what a lot of Montana casinos look like. At the Town Pump in the pic you can fill up with gas, beer, cigarettes, coffee and sandwiches then hit the casino for a gambling fix before you hit the road. You can see the Magic Diamond Casino logo. There are 20 state of the art multi-game machines inside.

I started driving a couple of hours before daylight so didn't get to take any pics for awhile. But the sun was up by the time I reached the Madison Valley. This is the start of the valley. The Tobacco Root Mountains are in the background. In the lower right you can see a remnant of the Old Bozeman Trail where it winds its way around the rock outcropping.

A bigger view of the Madison Valley. The Gravely Range is on the left. The Madison River flows thru this valley. The headwaters are in Yellowstone Park.

You can see the scar on the mountain where an earthquake caused a rockslide that formed a natural dam on the Madison creating this lake, aptly named Earthquake Lake.

I took the shortcut thru Yellowstone Park then cruised down past the Grand Tetons.

Then I went up over Union Pass. Three rivers flow out of this area. The Wind River is part of the Missouri/Mississippi River drainage that flows to the Gulg of Mexico. The Green River is part of the Colorado River drainage that flow to Baja California. The Gros Ventre River is part of the Columbia River drainage that flows to the Pacific Ocean.

It looks like beautiful country, mickey. Thanks for the pics. Earthquake Lake looks interesting. Any idea how old it is?

Why mickey, you're presenting these pics in the context of you never having been on the roads around Montana before.

    Very interesting indeed....

Maybe it's somebody pretending to be mickey posting all of these pics. Possibly his pet mule. Or maybe he joined AAA. Or wait, maybe the mule joined AAA.

I think Rob and I are onto something. Mickey's not in any of the pics! I bet it's the mule behind the camera.

The earthquake occurred in 1959. There were 26 people killed from the rock slide. This is the other end of the lake.

Oh, you want to see a picture of me? Why didn't you say so. Here I am with my friends drinking and having fun at the bar. Aln, my hair color is the same as yours. Notice the machines in the background.

I couldn't get the pic up. It must be to old or to big. I'll try later.

You need a refresher course in contexts.

Mickey, great pictures. I have a relative that moved last year to Montana, somewhere near Kalispell. They sold their house here and paid cash for a good sized spread there. I'm planning a trip next month for a visit, your pictures are a great motivator.
