Thread: Penny a push tax

  1. #1
Several cities in Illinois have added a penny a push tax on slots. This is in bars and restaurants etc and not in casinos.
While a penny a push may not sound like much, particularly on higher level games, most of the play in these non casino venues are penny or nickels. The tax is charged on the spin to the player, not the owner/ operator.

I’ll let the slot pros calculate how onerous [stupid] this is.

At $1 per spin it would be 1%. $2 a spin and its half a percent. My guess is the games in the bar/restaurants/gas stations are in the 92% range so the penny a push still makes them better than the casinos in Illinois.

The money chop on the machine earn is 30% to the state, 35% to the slot route operator and 35% to the owner. The owner has to pay all the overhead for a five machine operation out of that 35%. The penny a push is just another creative tax by the State of Illinois.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ

Straight up desperation...this is what happens when you shut business completely down for several months---wasn't worth it. Look at the townships now---financially fucked.

Personally, I hope that nobody gambles in any of the localities doing this whatsoever, but I'm sure that's ridiculously optimistic. Revenues aren't even going to drop off to the point that this move costs the townships money, in all likelihood.

You'd think the actual state would be against it, though. The state regulates the VLT's and that tax hasn't gone up, so anything that could potentially result in a decline in revenues (such as fewer people playing) basically costs the state directly. Players will also generally lose whatever amount to play with faster, and occasionally, a lot faster...but the revenue will be off compared to what it might have been as the penny per spin of the player's bankroll is getting sliced right off the top.

For someone who doesn't care about anything sure does seem to have opinions and care ALOT!

I'm pretty sure it's possible to have an opinion about something without caring about it. For entertainment purposes only, or whatever. Why would I actually care about what a particular township in Illinois' VLT revenues are?

I'm kind of on the fence about that. I find it difficult to believe that precisely 0% of homosexuals choose to be that way.
