Thread: movie reco

Welp, you bringing up the Bad News Bears brought me to this skit which I never seen.
I laughed at a couple of jokes.
Not a great skit but I like Russell Crowe's acting.

We have some differences in that film.
The coach is a total Fuck Up and Drunk lol.
The acting and writing is just too good.
She doesn't win in the end and she is taken out of the game to save her arm.
I know it's hypocritical and not fair but it's just such a damn good movie.
    I love the ending.
All the kids got a bottle of beer and who doesn't love Tanner Boyle?
    Oh and they use Opera.
Seriously... please take me back to that time period when it was ok for little kids to have a beer.

"Hey Yankees... you can take your apology and your trophy and shove 'em straight up your ass!"

Edit: That movie is so much more relatable.
I never had to experience a girl playing on my team or leagues but everything else in that film is in my youth.
My dad would be drinking Old Milwaukee as he was umpiring near first base.
In Pop Warner Football I was concussed twice and nobody gave a shit, noticed or helped me lol.
I just got up and got to the sideline or the huddle.
It took me over ten years to learn that I was concussed.
Of course I don't care about it or even say concussed... I just got knocked out for a moment.
Part of the game and being a boy or man.
Yes, they nailed it as far as what being a kid back then was like. The arcade/rec center scene was totally iconic for me. Thanks for posting the SNL skit - it was quite funny.

How about the balls on this motherfucker!?
    I swear he is untouchable.
You think he would lay low and stay out of controversy.
    Nope... lol.

Goes along with the Robert Shaw kick I got on today for some reason...

Yes pretty crazy. Groubert and Hunley are going to have a field day with this one.

Good one Monet. It's been a long time since I saw that one.

Although this guys voice starts to annoy me after 10 minutes I still think this 20 minute break down is better than the movie.
Cheating and Scamming is just a part of everyday life for everyone no matter how much money you have.
No matter what fantasy bullshit they spin on these gambling forums.
Tobey didn't know anything that was going on??
    Yeah Right lolz.
I like how they had to stake DiCaprio giving him a total freeroll.
I like how Molly was getting a kickback from the other employees lol.
The real Molly is dark and twisted compared to the phony movie.
You can see that easily in the short interview.
Unlike the movie it turns out that Molly was just a big rat and ratted on everyone lol.

Thanks Monet. Houston Curtis was a very recent guest on GWAE. I listened to Rogan's Marc Andreessen (created the first commercial web browser) podcast. You may have listened to it. I thought the internet/computer history portion of the podcast was somewhat interesting. Nothing worth a reco.

Which begs the question... Is Houston Curtis a Cheater or just a Sharpie?

I did start watching that Rogan episode and am about 30 mins in.
It feels like a walk down memory lane so far.

Anyways I was messing about trying to find a movie I haven't seen and I ran into the Kid Detective 2020.
Decent enough for a viewing and had a couple of humorous scenes.
I liked the face and eyes the girl made when she said he would never worship a demon.
And her eyes/facial expression again when the detective said oh yeah, well your dad is gay.
The movie reminds me of BRICK (2005).
A much better movie if you enjoy that sort of dialogue, which I do.
I feel like the movie Brick is better than the preview linked below.

Thanks for the reco Monet, I'll watch the Kid Detective movie. Plus I did like Brick. I guess these type of movies all follow the Heathers (Christian Slater '89) template.

    Edit:Houston Curtis is/was both a Sharpie and a Cheater (Mucking/Inserting etc.) IMHO.

    No worries.
Just to be clear, Brick is way the better movie of the two.

Hi Monet, I watched the Kid Detective movie that you had kindly posted. I enjoyed the movie. One of my favorite parts was when the protagonist kept milking his life time offer for free ice cream that was offered to him as a child for solving a case and which he continued into adulthood.

I'm guessing that isn't going to be a problem anymore.
Notice how after 20 years of everyone hating him the whole town loved him again immediately lol.
He probably will get double scoops from now on.

On another note, I just got back from Top Gun Maverick.
I don't want to say too much since you may have not viewed it yet.
Let me know if you think the movie had way too many close up shots.
I'll tell you this, I left a bit early when the movie got a bit too silly for me.
I probably would of stuck it out but I had this older black lady constantly talking through the movie, coughing, sneezing and what not.
This is literally the first time in 40 years I had someone break movie etiquette for an entire movie.
I might be getting a bit old and very get off my lawn.
I went to see the F-18s on film.
I think I got my 11 dollars worth.

I have not viewed this film yet Monet, however I plan on seeing it. Thanks for the heads up.
Indeed - the disgruntled ice cream owner/server and other townsfolk completely reverted to their old disposition towards the protagonist after solving the case (plus the charges were dropped for sure in regards to getting stuck in that girl's closet).

I really don't want to spoil it for you.
I just don't understand all the 10/10 reviews and the 97% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
It's like a bunch of people who never watch movies.
They are all saying how much better than the original it is.
    That's Fucking Bullshit.
    Not even close.
The storyline isn't very good and its very disjointed at times and it's damn near close to a remake instead of a continuation.
It's insane to make a sequel 34/35 years after the original.
Sort of like Wall Street Money Never Sleeps.
They waited far too long to make the sequel.
Charlie Sheen said so and was right, like he usually is, about everything!
I did enjoy some of the scenes and they were worth the price of admission.
But in my opinion DUNKIRK is a far better aviation movie experience.
That movie was awesome on the Big Screen.
Not so much on my 60 inch Television.

Hi Monet, I watched the new Top Gun Maverick movie last night. I would rate it at about 3 out of 10. I liked some of the flight scenes.

    That was quick lol.
Caught me completely off guard on that one.
Yeah, I left when Tom Cruise ran through the woods to meet up with Rooster.
The writing was really bad in this movie.
I really do not understand the rave reviews.
They literally recreated many of the same exact scenes from the original.
The movie was just odd and weird to me.
From the very beginning with a Message from Tom Cruise.
I do respect him though as he was pulling real life G's to make that movie.
He certainly is Top Level in his field.
Too Bad he is BatShit Insane with Scientology.
Just finishing up your Song Reco.
    Thanks.

No problem Monet. Yes it's too bad that movie was awful. They just checked the boxes off with requisite scenes. One of the most ridiculous scenes occurred after Maverick was grounded by the admiral. Maverick decided that he would prove that the mission was not impossible to complete by flying one of the mission jets though the full mission sequence in the required amount of time. I guess Naval security had no problem allowing a grounded pilot to take one of the jets and then fly it through the mission sequence.

Mickey has a point but I do sense some jealously.
    Speaking of Tom Cruise lol...

Thanks for the link. I agree with your points. Tom's paying the bills with these type of movies and so he will continue to make these type of movies as we know.
