I missed the part from JSTAT where he told how much he played before the big mailers came?

My girlfriend was reading over my shoulder and asked why her mailers are for just $5??

Sounds like she'd be an inexpensive date if you took her to Caesars.

Were she receiving mailers in the three or four figure range, I'd be more concerned.

BTW, should a man, if he's reasonably well-heeled and can afford it, give money to a date so she can gamble, assuming she asks for it?

I go to a few casinos in Southern California/LA/San Diego area. I feel like Vegas overall offers more for the play. I also feel like the busier the casino is on average, the more stingier they are, especially with hotels.
Morongo is the toughest casino I've found to get any sort of comp, they are also an 18+ casino. Very busy.
Pechanga is much better, and what a huge casino there's always something you'd want to play.

As far as giving money to your date so that he/she can gamble, before I give my opinion:
I am not a cheap date, I almost always pick up the tab/drive/treat like a gentleman, minus my language.
However I will almost never give money to date so that they can gamble with. I believe when you gamble, the thrill exists because you have something to lose for it, the win only feels good because you can lose.
If you gamble with money given to you, it is simply not gambling, at All. I would rather buy her something. And when you lose the money you were given, it's definitely a lot more thankless than something tangible/meal. etc.

What I do with my girlfriend is we will combine our money, but I will stake two or three times her amount. I.E. if she put in $100, I will put in $200. And if we win, I will take my percentage proportion of the stake, meaning that if it turned into $3000, $2000 of it will be mine. We could still play two different machines at the same time (usually next to each other) and we're still on the same bankroll. Usually we lose, so I'm the one who lost twice as much as she did. But the thrill is still there for her and she/we can play a lot longer.

In just my opinion, It's nothing about whether you're a well-heeled man or not. I believe I am, but I will not Just give money to anyone to gamble with.
