Thread: Quick Thumbs Up

Compared to halcyon days of yore, almost every buffet is overpriced, but that has to do with them serving as comp write-offs. If you list a hefty retail, but allow (in Boyd's case) a 40% discount if points are used, then the 40% discount counts as a comp. So across the board, almost all buffets are inflated.

Many times, the reason I like a buffet is the room as opposed to the food. The Orleans is nice and bright and the "single male" seatings let you work on your stuff in peace. I like the Main Street buffet for the same reason -- the food is okay at best, but the room is a great place to start a morning. There's always stuff to review and stats to sprawl across the table.

Interestingly, before I did the Cantina breakfast the other day in the Miracle Shops, I had stopped to get breakfast at the Paris buffet. The room, however, was just too dark to work comfortably. So I passed.

The Wynn is killer, but I don't even count that as a buffet.

Why are you unable to find any restaurants with single seating and good lighting? Seems a much better deal than having to go up and grab food exposed to every germ in the room. And you might even be able to find a coupon that gives $2.50 off.

Oh for the 2.95 warehouse buffet at Stardust.

I'm not a buffet guy because I don't eat enough but also I have Rob's concerns about people and their germs. I have been involved in running restaurants and bars and the handling of food by your staff is criminal. It was a losing battle to try to get them to adhere to food safety standards. I had one place where I wouldn't even grab a french fry in my kitchen.

Danger is my business. When I booked a room at the Extended Stay across from the Rio, I asked for the ricin room (2008 story). Evidently that was what they call a faux pas.

Wow! You are consistent with advice, Ron Singer.....consistently bad! Whether it be progressive wagering to overcome negative expectation, right on through to health/nutrition/eating advice.

Skipping breakfast is about the worst thing a human being can do. Skipping meals, especially breakfast is why people's metabolism slows as they get older. It also reeks havoc with blood sugar levels contributing to the epidemic that is diabetes.

A person should eat within 60 minutes of waking and then every 3 hours throughout the day, even if only a piece of fruit or snack. That stabilized blood sugar levels and sends a message to the brain that there will be sufficient food supply and nutrition throughout the day. Skip breakfast and the message sent is that there is NOT sufficient food and nutrition coming and the body immediately goes into what is known as "starvation mode". Obviously you are not starving by missing one meal, but it is the body's preservation mode. And the first thing that occurs is metabolism slows. Doing this regularly and metabolism slows permanently.

So there is nothing wrong with your lobster Roll at 11am, if that is something you desire, but make that your second meal of the day. Have a bowl of oatmeal or muffin or something shortly after waking and then work towards your 11am nutrition intake.

Ok, since I have corrected this bad advice, let me do another. Stay away from progression wagering. It doesn't change anything as far as winning and losing....just redistributes the wins and losses a bit.
There is mounting evidence that fasting diets with time restrictions may be healthier than eating throughout the day.

The science is suggesting that this 'starvation mode' you're referencing actually involves a healthy regeneration of cells. If you really think about it, it's only the last few centuries where regular eating has been a possibility. For hundreds of thousands of years, it was feast or famine where hunger and not eating for periods of time was normal and the argument is that the body evolved to accommodate that.

Your Mileage May Vary. I am not a dietician, but I do fast regularly and I think I'm healthier because of it. My Doctor agrees, but not all Drs are in agreement.

    This entire post is funny.

I've heard yuppie after yuppie constantly proclaim the "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" nonsense my whole life. Same with the "later in life" warnings about blood sugar levels, slowing metabolism, etc. Not even close.

Up until 2009 I almost always ate one meal a day, and I enjoyed it. I didn't eat just to check off a box. That mirrors my adult life sleeping habits to this day--I sleep in shifts, a couple hours at a time/2-4 times a day. Sometimes no sleep. When I got out of school up until I began professional gambling, I rarely knew where in the world I would be tomorrow or at what times. Taking naps on airplanes was a luxury. From 2000 thru 2009 I spent about 3 days a week driving from Az. to all points in Nevada. I usually only hit the machines overnight because I had spent enough time over the years being around this planet's most despicable form of life--people. Since mid 2009 my wife has tried and failed to get me to eat and sleep "regularly".

What's the result of this, according to kew if I read him correctly, "poor way of eating"? Well, if both he and I undressed for a side-by-side photo from the neck down, NO ONE would be able to tell who's the 70-year old and who's the 35-year old. I'll also put my speedy metabolism up against any 20-year old's. My grandkids will attest to that one. And has all this bad living affected sharpness of the mind. Ha! I believe nobody needs to be told that answer.

Aside from the nutritional and "yuppie" factors, there are two main aspects that affects the quality of a person's life: first, move more and eat less. Put the fork down at the right time after eating smartly. Next, have as much peace of mind as possible. Find a few decent people to have in your life, project a cheerful attitude, and do not fear death. Worrying about anything only brings that phase in sooner.

I am not even going to dignify Rob's fantasies with a response. It's absurd, as most of what he says is. Rob has no idea what I look like or how I am built. So anything he says is pure fantasy. BUT, we all do know what Rob looks like....He looks like Uncle Leo from the Seinfeld show. He is old....and he looks old. And the video (with Alan) that we all saw was a number of years ago. God knows what he looks like now. But you can bet he will never be mistaken for someone in their mid 30's.

Sorry, but, everyone will only be looking at his 9.5'' penis.

From the neck down kew. I've been 35 and I was in perfect shape at the time. Today my body barely looks any different and I weigh 10 pounds more than I did then. I'm guessing that since you live where you do and do what you do, staying and eating healthy aren't priorities in your life. So that side-by-side better be taken fast. And yes, I'd cover up the giveaway.
