Believe or not, I pass on hexes that are 3 to go. I'm spoiled rotten on plays that aren't so time consuming. I don't like banging away on one machine all day long. I like short periods in the seat, then back up and walking around. It keeps me awake. But I'll begrudgingly play a 2 to go.
I walked up on a friend a couple of months ago who was on a hex at 3 to go. He was over 8000 spins without it moving. Thats the kind of thing I don't like when there is so much easy money to pick off on other shorter plays.
That said, I know an AP that gang bangs high denom hexes with a couple of friends. They take turns spinning and all three getting freeplay mailers. They have played as high as $80 hexes. They caught an $8 hex at 3 to go on an 85% machine at a CZR property. They lost 13K.
I asked him why they play that CZR bullshit. He said they got sucked in with the big freeplay that CZR sends out.
"More importantly, mickey thought 8-4 was two games over .500. Argued about it. C'mon, man. Nothing can top that for math expertise. If GWAE ever has you on again, you can be sure I'll be calling in with that gem.'Nuff said." REDIETZ
Thanks Mickey.
I'm actually not at all surprised you pass on 6s (three to go), for exactly the reason you give.
I would typically play a $4 and not play a $.80. In between it would just depend on the opportunity cost and the fringe benefits.
my rule for hexes is:
1 till bonus (columns 1 or 5)
2 till bonus (columns 2 or 4)
1 till gold orb (columns 2 or 4) (gold orbs in 1 or 5 are ignored, 1 and 5 don't advance often enough)
>4000 ways
2 till progressive (used to be 3 until I got stuck for 4 hours on one that never moved and ended up having to leave with still no movement)

Buffalo Stampede at the highest volume is probably the worst machine. I've told a few dozen since the game came out to turn it down from the obnoxious highest volume setting. Many will deliberately crank it full blast. A few arguments but most will turn it down if asked. I will turn it down to 2 or 3 setting when neighbors leave machine depending on the situation. Turning it to 1 will usually end up that they will fuck with the volume(too low). 2 or 3 is happy medium from my experience. Asians are the worst culprits for doing this by far.

I once had a blue crystal and a yellow show up. One time On Nile, it went into the red bonus( instead of either green or blue) but didn't pay at the top of the screen anyway.
A bit of data:took a $3.75 Major at 84. Took about $600 to take it down (went off at 100 plus an overshoot for 102 banked wilds) and made about $17 (LOL) on the play.
On the hexes my stats show an average of 60 units returned in the bonus free spins. That is, without the white kitty averaged in. I hit the white kitty an average of once every 15 bonuses.

Not mine, but this is the stuff you have wet dreams over.
Could just be variance but the random free games from the reels (not from hitting a cap) seem to hit more often on the Asian variant.
Mickey Crimm's numbers are garbage in many places. I can go as far as 65/87 or 88/115 or a bit higher in one particular casino.
