In any case, I tend to think there's no reason to bring Singer's wife into it; she's probably a nice lady. Besides, Singer already gives us plenty of material to work with.
Singer's wife has to be a saint. Can you imagine what it is like to be dragged from one apartment to the other raising kids while your husband pisses away any chance of normalcy on some losing VP system? Then you wind up in the campgrounds living in a pull behind camping hovel.
At least she instilled enough responsibility in the daughter to take them in and provide shelter for the majority of the year. One can only imagine what goes thru that poor woman's mind as the wind rocks her to sleep in the camper while they are trying to give the kid a break from their presence.......RIP
Yeah, but that nine inch schlong keeps her happy, eh?
What, Me Worry?
It has to be Robs charismatic personality !
Got a 300 dollar comp today.
First real comp that I took since the shut down.
All to go steak house food.
Tipped 40 dollars.
Food was pretty damn good.
Clean up was a breeze.
Forgot how much I enjoyed this part.
I got a little too much special attention or VIP Treatment.
Didn't enjoy that part as I'd rather feel like the wallpaper.
I gave the host too much information on my plans which obviously was a mistake on my part.
Need to do better and remember to only give Name, Rank and Serial Number only.
Getting Sloppy in my Older Age.

The trick is you have to show up prepared "wallet wise" for every possible scenario. Under the worse case possible, that $43.25 bill you could put out two twenties, three ones, and three quarters. The extra quarter is for insurance in case of a scene where you state that you should have left two quarters.

You would be amazed how many people tipped when picking up a pizza. And my understanding is it got more prevalent during Covid as service workers still actually willing to work were rewarded by thankful customers. That said, to me it comes back to like slot attendants, it’s isn’t a job that is paid like a server so a tip shouldn’t be expected.
I'm going to answer this:
1.) Some to go food you pick up from the restaurant you had the option of eating in the restaurant. Since you are not eating it there, there is no waitress to tip. However, the restaurant is expending resources to box and bag this food and provide you with utensils, resources for which there is generally no extra charge.
2.) The food must be bagged, boxed and brought to the counter, so it really takes no less work than bringing the food to your table; there are just no drinks to refill.
3.) Pizza is different, especially when the pizza place doesn't have an option to dine-in. Even then, many of them still have tip jars out and I'll usually drop a single or two in there, but only if I already have them. If it's a place where I could have eaten in and been served, then I'll usually tip $3-$5...whatever is the closest to 10%.
I hate coins and usually don't carry them. I only keep a few quarters in the sunglasses holder of my car in case I park at a meter.
For the meters that don't take coins, I just don't pay them. I'd have to catch a ticket one in every ten times for not paying to be -EV...and they should accept at least quarters if they want to put a meter there.
I think that I am going to modify my tipping down again. The IRS assumes servers earn 7% of receipts in tips. That is going to be my new number. All you to go people are making up for my lack of 15% or whatever anyhow. These servers are making more than the owners at these rates probably.
Better they have the money than the Federal Government.
You actually bring up a point that has hurt the industry in recent years with the change to 95% of the public paying and tipping with credit cards. Obviously for the customer it makes sense with rewards on cards but it has effected the server.
Still in most cases the server makes less than the federal or state minimum wage in base pay. The owner of the establishment has only the legal responsibility to ensure a server is making that minimum wage. Owners cannot question the tips a server reports, even if they believe they underreported them. Which was common for years when servers mainly made cash tips. However the change to mostly cards means the owner now has a traceable amount of tips and most now use that amount to pay the employee weekly on their check the entire amount. And owners hate it because it’s now a higher payroll number they are matching SS taxes on.
This has increased the tax servers pay and reduced the overall amount made and also takes away the getting paid daily aspect of the job. Which may be good for their overall finances as some couldn’t manage daily cash, but could also be hurting the appeal of the job to some. Which could be contributing to the challenges of hiring in the industry today.
As for the IRS and the 7%, that is something that may be on paper but isn’t reality. Besides the fact that people in the income levels average servers make never get audited, no server has a record of their receipts for the year. And the IRS certainly doesn’t have individual employees sales records of a restaurant. This is just a suggested number for servers to ensure they are reporting tips.
Fucking taxman getting a piece of people who don't even make that much!
With the hotel bar, I pretty much cheated. Housekeepers weren't considered a, "Tipped," position, so they could report whatever they wanted to.
I did track what the bartender was getting tipped by, "Counting the jar," when the bar closed, but that was only so the bartender wasn't ripping us off. Basically the paycheck calculation for that section would look like this:
Hours Worked * Base Wage = Base Wage Pay
Tips/Hours Worked = Hourly Tips
In the Winter, the tips would occasionally not bring it up to minimum wage, so we made up that difference. If tips were such that it ended up being more than minimum wage, then I just officially made the hourly tips exactly minimum wage. Like you said, no way the bartender is getting audited or that anyone is going to take a deep dive into the financials of a bar (technically a separate company from the hotel) that barely breaks even, by design, anyway.
Anyway, yeah, I'd like to think that most people who ever worked any kind of tipping job are still at least tipping in cash. They should know.
I will also base my tipping on my educated guess on what I think, or especially if I KNOW what servers, dealers, attendants, valet etc make. If I'm at a high end casino steakhouse, I know with almost certainty that their making serious bread. I could care less if it's comped, these guys/gals are getting a flat amount or possibly zilch depending on the variables. On the other end of the spectrum, I will be more reasonable even occasionally generous if I know/suspect their working for peanuts and or getting stiffed all the time. I base my amount or lack thereof uniquely with every particular scenario. In other words I'm all over the board. No such thing as " customary " for this guy !
The Boz and MaxPen:
Actually, I missed the biggest point about carry-out...people usually don't get beverages!
Beverages in the restaurant industry---MASSIVELY profitable. A glass of Coke costs almost nothing, if you're the restaurant. Liquor is marked up by some 300%, or more.
Anyway, so in addition to the added time and materials, you're also buying the items (food) that the restaurant actually doesn't make a huge profit on to begin with. That's why most, "Specials," you see are dine-in only; the restaurant figures that they'll make it up in beverages, particularly if someone is drinking alcohol.
Some people just want it all or to win all the time.
They want to constantly Rob the Casino, Get Massive Comps and Stiff their Servers.
My life hasn't been perfect but its basically been on a FreeRoll for about 40+ years.
For every dollar I tip I have probably stolen 10+ dollars which massively compensates any tip ever given in my life.
etc. etc.
Not to mention how much I steal from the local Grocery Store, Drug Store, Walmart, Mall... etc. etc.
I've literally filled up a grocery buggy, full of food and liquor and walked it straight out the door (hundreds of times).
This doesn't even include all the glitches I have found over the years in and outside of the Casino.
As I said before... I don't tithe, give to churches or charities.
I give cash directly to working people and or Fungi People (Homeless People).
