I will have no other comment after this post. I don't really care who criticizes it or who bashes me. I stand by it.

If alan is feeding his pension money into the business he couldn't personally be in that bad of shape financially. It looks to me like revenue fell way off. Should he have to pay his son out of his pension? Does Alan really need the business? It looks to me like a renegotiation or just shut the business down, live off SS and pension, and hang out in the casinos everyday like so many retirees do.

These Forums continue to boggle/entertain me. People getting a new Kidney and Pancreas to avoid Death. These People on these Forums claim no God exists but will do anything to avoid Hell's Fire for another 10 years or so. Gamblers who look at Porn and Smoke Weed telling others how to live by the 10 Commandments. Citizens living the Easy Life but crying all day long how they don't agree with whoever is running the Country like their opinion actually matter. Homosexuals who talk to God but it must not be Jesus, Yahweh or Allah because those Gods will have nothing to do with that type of lifestyle. However if you research it, you have about 52 other Gods that do condone Homosexual Behavior. People claiming to be Jewish but no nothing about Judaism nor go to a Synagogue and live a more Gentile or Philistine life compared to the Gentiles or Philistines.

I've never deleted any post. And I've made some idiotic ones. I agree with kewlJ on this.

I did not read every Slap post at the time, having other stuff to do, and I'm sorry I did not. They were important for framing many discussions on this forum. If people arguing for stop losses, win goals, and other voodoo wind up owing markers for video poker and driving RVs cross-country while avoiding Las Vegas, that suggests much regarding the efficacy of their recommendations.

More important, erasing posts is a big clue that they don't want to handle reality and its consequences. I would submit that if you actively try to erase what's been said on a screen, you probably also do a lot of erasing of reality in your mind.

People who win gambling embrace reality. You can't edit your memory or your reportage of events because it makes you more comfortable. You're cheating yourself of the real and its lessons.

This would be ridiculous. Whether someone is anti-AP is up to the people reading to decide, not the author post hoc. Mr. Mendelson ran out in the middle of the night to debunk counting two tables. In a decade, Mr. Mendelson never consulted (or never reported consulting) math professionals regarding the effects of win goals, stop losses, and Argentino's voodoo. The latter didn't require any more energy than photographing tables in the middle of the night. So yes, that's anti-AP. It's not only anti-AP, it's pro-voodoo. It's irresponsible.

Editing out the reality of this blowup, while reputationally convenient, warps the debate about how to properly gamble.

I doubt you even know what a rising win goal is (also known as a rising stop loss) because if you did you would never object to it.

If you have an advantage and you come up with some artificial reason to quit, then you’d be legitimately retarded.

The logic works quite easily — would you ever quit if you were guaranteed to win $5 every spin? Unless you’re retarded, the answer should be “no”. Would you quit if you were guaranteed to win $1 every spin? What about $0.50 a spin? Again, if you’re not retarded, the answer should still be “no”.

Now what if you weren’t guaranteed $0.50 a spin, but rather, half the time you win $2 and half the time you lose $1? It’s still worth $0.50/spin, but it’s not guaranteed. Unless you’re retarded and/or have an incredibly tiny bankroll (like less than $20 probably), your answer to whether or not you’d ever quit should be a “no”.

Continue on with the logic and you’ll end up in the situation where APs play.



Of course, this is all kind of well known since, for the most part, APs aren’t retarded. I know some (somehow) who aren’t too bright and think stop losses or win goals are good, as if hitting a RF at the beginning of a session is going to make them lose going forward or something stupid. Alan says he's sorry, he can't pay what he promised as the business is doing very poorly; he admits he lied to his son about the viability and health of the business: he didn't want his son to know it is failing.

The thread veered into the Twilight Zone when Jason started berating his sire for his gambling activities / addiction.

Lots of emotion, angst, shame, followed by a "kiss and make up" then a mutual deleting of their respective posts.

maybehe went to the john patrick school of business book keeping where there is a blurred line between business funds and gambling funds..leading to a failed business.

And then there is a life lesson.....if you lend someone money and they dont pay, and then you lendf someone money and they still dont pay, and then you lend someone more money and they still dont pay.......you have to blame yourself at some point. You needed to mitigate your damages.
And the same goes for services for which you dont get paid.

Both in the last year, since I encountered Alan and particularly in the last 36 hours, I too have wondered why Alan is still "fighting" to keep his business open. Actually, I thought it closed last fall at the end of the redietz package discussion....that's what Alan told us. I guess that was just a convenient "mis-truth". :rolleyes:

By Alan's own admission, this kind of business has become obsolete. Isn't trying to make this kind of business a go, in this day and age, about the same as trying to make a VCR video rental company a go in 2018? :confused: "Hey let's run down to BlockBuster and pick up a video" ;)

It is really non of my business, so I am not advising Alan, but geez. Hopefully he has a decent pension from a career as a legit journalist, which ended a while ago and with the modest amount that SS pays, can live at least a somewhat decent retirement.

As I watch old guys retire with nothing to keep them active and then watch them die, maybe Alan just wants to keep busy. People ask me when I am going to retire. Didint allan teach his son not to get into business ventures with gamblers....especially gamblers that claim they never have a winning year.

If its true that alan was giving his son a sweetheart deal for just working 2 days a month ...then he just needs to walk away and consider things are even since he was overpaid for a period of time. Lesson learned about getting into bed with losing gamblers....even if they are your father.

But if it wasnt a sweetheart deal and the son earned every penny...then the solution is simple......for a period of time..instead of throwing 200-500 in a craps table...he throws that money in an envelope and mails it to his son. Ever week.

So if the money is really owed, then alan has to decide fif the craps tables take precedence over his financial obligations

And if the sweetheart deal was for real as alan described....then both sides can walk away as things tend to even out in life.
