I am not really counting on social security for me, but I would like my mother to get hers. She is currently retired from 25 years of teaching, but her pension isn't quite enough. My brother and I supplement her a little bit while we wait for her to hit full retirement so she gets the higher SS amount.

As for what is going to happen in 2034, I am not too worried about that. IF social security survives the all republican control of the next two years, and congress gets back to normal, the likely solution will be they do nothing until 2034 and then just pay the additional money from the general government expenses (more debt). That way neither side has to do anything about it before then and they can just talk and blame each other.

If there is abuse in the social security system, it is in the disability portion. My late partner was on disability. Legitimately so. He severely injured his back, had multiple surgeries and most days was in a great deal of pain and discomfort. BUT I see many people on disability that are no more disabled than myself or any other healthy person. Disability has become sort of an alternative welfare program. Hell, people can get disability for depression and emotional issues. What the fuck is that? If you are depressed, get off your ass and do what you need to, to make your life better.

No one is lying about Trumps former SS position. There is video floating around from an interview in 2014, a year before he ran for President the first time, Trump said "You have to cut social security....you just have to. No other choice". I have seen the video. YOU have probably seen the video.

It is just awkward as fuck and I've never heard any adult person call another person "cool" as part of their daily nickname. Nicknames sure. But you never like to stay on the discussion and always need to twist something around a bit.

Why is it that you don't know a fucking thing about how SS works?

SS takes money in from workers and pays it out to retiree's.
SS showed a big surplus from 1935 until 2021, over 80 years.
All of the surplus was supposed to go into interest bearing bonds (SS Trust Fund).
But over the years Congress stole about half the money.
Still there is plenty of money in the trust fund.
SS has been running a slight deficit since 2021. More money coming in than going out.
The difference is payed by the SS Trust Fund.
By 2034 the Trust Fund will be depleted.
But people will still be paying into SS.
And people will still be collecting SS.
At that point SS will only be able to pay out 73% of what retiree's have coming.

BUT PLEASE. DON'T TALK ABOUT SS RUNNING OUT OF MONEY. IT CAN'T RUN OUT OF MONEY AS LONG AS PEOPLE ARE PAYING INTO IT.

The shit will hit the fan within a couple of years of 2034. It will become a big political issue. Politicians will be campaigning on Congress paying the difference. If you want to fuck yourself then vote for someone that says seniors have to take the paycuts.

A side issue is all the money Congress stole from the SS Trust Fund when there were big surpluses. It's estimated to be over 2 trillion. And it was supposed to be invested in interest bearing bonds. Congress paying that back would keep benefits normal for many more years.

It's all going to be about what politicians you support in the 2030's.

Instead of sitting in a bus for $108 for about 5 hours, wouldn't it be better to get a plane that will fly to Anaheim and then go to Las Vegas for say about say $200? You will save time for just an extra $92..
