Just came back from dinner. I met friends at a restaurant at one of the local casinos where I have played from time to time, and when I walked in I noticed there was a drawing for free play. So I swiped my card. After dinner, on the way out, I walked by the players club desk and saw my name on the screen of winners. $1,000 of free play. Nice dessert.
Congratulations, Alan. Maybe your pER is higher than you think.
More important is how did you treat that free play? If you weren't expecting it, then running it thru once and taking whatever the machine gave you, is the smart approach. But I'm guessing you got about $900 from it, then negotiated with your compulsive side that hates action-ending decisions, and talked yourself into going home with $5000 or $250--whichever came first. Then you justified losing the difference by calling that a "victory" because it was more than you were expecting to walk out of there with.
How close--or far off--am I?
Actually Rob, I was headed to the car with the group, so I took the $1,000 free play coupon and put it in my wallet. The coupon is valid for about 9 months.
Since it isn't one of my regular haunts, I was wondering what it would bring on eBay??

Well, I went into Reno overnight for my monthly play at the mostly +EV machines I've not yet lost to in the Eldorado. I won $1230 thanks to four 3's on $5 ACE$ BP, but here's something that would cause great angst among AP's. When I put my card into the reader it said the usual "accepted", but when I looked at it ten minutes later, it said "see player's rewards". I removed it then reinserted, and it did the same thing. No matter though, as I played on until my $500 minimum win goal was realized playing 25c thru $5 ARTT.
When I was leaving the club was opening, so I stopped by. A suit came out to tell me that my play was restricted in that offers, free play, comps, mailers, or points would no longer be applied to my vp play--which they said I was always welcomed to play. I asked if this was because of the high EV games I've been playing, and the answer was no. I left without concern because I've never cared about or played for the comps or the points; I always play just for the money directly from the machines. And, of course, I'll be going back there for more play soon.
Anyway I forgot (for all you muscle car lovers). Today we're going to Reno with our visitor friends, for the annual Hot August Night's event. I'm not getting much sleep, but "live for today when you still have & respect your health". What's interesting about this event is that all week, there's been a small fleet of custom $1.5million RV's something like ours pulling into our RV park towing classic '60s cars for the show....only these RV's cost nearly a million dollars MORE than ours. I was told four of them are owned by Reggie Jackson, and we were allowed to look inside. It's only special if you're into RVing, but it was a sight to see. Same with the muscle cars, which I've always loved. You won't see any rice burners at Hot August Nights.
Now THIS is the way to get back to having fun in Nevada after a fabulous trip to SF & Mendocino wine country with my wife! Yes I took a quick look at several other threads where arci continues to post his jealousy over me and where I'm obviously inside his head more than his problems are. But his weaseling out of his own challenge to me recently where he looked as weak and confused as ever, could have a LOT to do with his irritability. Oh well....
It was an exhausting trip, but I felt like going up to Harvey's in Tahoe to play my famous 25c thru $5 ARTT strategy on their new (which is the reason I chose Harvey's for my play this month) 8/5 BP & 9/6 DDBP machines. (They don't have SDBP or TBP+). I set a win-and-leave goal of $500. After losing $2000 with a cashout of only $45 in the first session and with just 2 Flushes, no straight and no FH's, the 2nd session had only a $10 cashout with 25 credits remaining again after just 2 Flushes/no straights/no FH's, when I hit yet another big winner this year. Negative game again? Yup! And did having a goal and a bankroll make any difference? Yup--I took $6000, which is enough to safely play 3 full losing sessions--and which has never happened.
Profit? Exactly $16,180, and no tip went to any of the floor people who hung around with small tip-talk chatting for 3 minutes after I was paid in cash. So while arci continues his boring and monotonous existence and while others debate whether or not I'm the best video poker player ever, the simple fact that I CONTINUE to make gobs of money in my post-professional playing days really says it all. I am the best ever. Period.
Oh, in case the envious choose to declare the photo is not mine AGAIN, I've included a picture of my left hand trying to give the thumbs-up. Anyone who's met me may recognize the dollar sign tattoo on the back of my hand just between my thumb and index finger. It has nothing to do with my having been a professional gambler. I got it after a "lucky" crash landing of an old Soviet cargo plane that I was analyzing its comms system on, in the blizzardy hills of Kazakhstan. Myself and the 3 Russians on the flight all got the same tattoo after we were rescued the following day.
Someone on this forum whom I talk with every now & then just called to ask why, if the machine was in such a seemingly "cold cycle" did I not change machines. Good question, and here's the answer for any of you looking for another Singer teachable moment: this machine exhibited all the signs of being in a cold cycle but one, and in order to actually be in a cold cycle, every parameter must be met. The one that was not met was the outcomes of the five card redraws....or "sweeps" as I like to call them. The machine must not draw any winning hand in 6 straight sweeps--or in 9 of 10 sweeps--and my machine was serving up five card draw winners at the rate of at least 50%.
This was a classic case of understanding how and why the machines are programmed as they are, and utilizing that knowledge to a huge advantage. This was a very frustrating machine to be playing, but I knew a big winner of some type was forthcoming, simply because it was never in a cold cycle.
Thanks for that info. I have been winning a lot of sessions on sweeps but I did not know that info. If anything else, please post. BTW, my friends who have been receiving 10 times the amount of comps as I, and not playing there any at all (trying to get them as players,I guess) found out that these comps could NOT be used in vp machines.Quote:

congratulations on the royal, Rob. I've hit royals on machines that were hot and were seemingly turning out winner after winner, and then I've also hit royals on machines that were "cold" according to your definition. All it takes is one royal to make a cold machine become nuclear.
Thank you Alan. Gotta love the long-term consistent winning on those "negative EV machines"! I haven't played at a Harrahs property in quite some time...and at Harvey's in even a longer amount of time. I'm interested if this will generate any offers because I did play mostly at the $5 level for about 2-1/2 hours.

Hit quads TEN times tonight, FIVE of them were dealt including QUAD ACES. I went to Rincon for my free play -- and it will probably be the only time this month (September) when I will go there because the various free play offers are so small. What made it worthwhile tonight was the $295 of bounce back money from July that was in addition to $275 of free play.
My first stop was a $2 Aces and Faces machine that gave me quad 10s for $250 and I cashed out $400. I went to a $5 craps table and bought in for $100 and cashed out $153.
I went to $5 Aces and Faces and the quads were coming fast and furious. Got quads nine times including quad aces and the aces were dealt to me (see photo below). I also had quad 8s dealt to me twice, quad nines were dealt to me twice.
Pocketed a $2500 win on the night. Unfortunately, all of the quads on the $5 machine with the exception of the quad aces ($2,000) were worth $625 and allowed me plenty of play time (more than 6500 tier points before the 5,000 bonus) and that means some bounce back money later, and more points towards the Great Gift Wrap Up and I also added on about 70 comp dollars.

Alan, doesn't the fact that you got a bunch of quads--half of them dealt--and you probably got a good amount of straights and FH's too, while my machine GAVE ME NOTHING BUT A ROYAL IN 2-1/2 HOURS! give you any doubt at all that not all is random with these things?
Also, go back and look at my royal again. Notice anything "odd" about it? Something I've never seen: cards #3, 4, & 5, then #6 & 7 are actually a ROYAL IN SEQUENCE. I know if you line them up on the screen in sequential order then some machines pay a big bonus for that. But what I got means the cards in the deck actually WERE in sequence. Where's my bonus??

But, unfortunately, there was no third time.)
Good win, Alan! How long were you playing before you decided to call it quits? Also, what do you mean when you mention "bounce back money?" Is that money you save up for future play?
I didn't play very long, at all. I probably played at the craps table as long as I played at the $5 Aces and Faces machine... but that's because the craps table was slow with lots of "exotic" or center table bets that were hitting, time spent on payouts, lots of players throwing in center table bets, etc. Also, before I even bought in at the craps table, the shooter who had the dice was having a good, long roll and had made three different points.
Bounce back money is "cash back" but comes in the mail for a future date. The bounce back money I got was actually cash back from July. At some casinos you can get your cash back money right away even on the same day that you played, but Rincon mails it to you a month later so you must return or "bounce back" to the casino to play it.
Funny but interesting story Alan, but I wasn't talking anything about patterns or outside influences. Not sure how you were able to associate an actual internal royal in sequence with a cleaning lady.
Rob, do I seriously think the cleaning lady influenced the machine? No. But do I hope that she can? You bet your sweet bippy I do.
I'd have married her--or adopted her depending on her age.
I have seen her there in a couple of years... but after those big wins each time she came by to clean my machine I gave her a small tip. Sometimes only a dollar. And if I am having a good session at craps and a porter comes to clean away glasses and ash trays I will tip a dollar as well. I went to the my favorite high limit machine and put in the ticket. I hit quad aces again but this time it pays $2,000. See the photo below.
Another two thousand went into my pocket and I still had more than $700 remaining. So I took another bold move and switched to Double Double Bonus because the progressive royal was worth more than $27,000. I did not hit the royal, but I did get quad 3s with a kicker for $4,000. See the photo below.
Another $4,000 went into my pocket and I had $350 remaining. I switched back to Aces and Faces, but I ran into some trouble, and lost about $1500. Not to worry, my night was still "golden."
So I changed machines and I went to the machine on the far left, next to the wall. This is one of the dedicated Double Double Bonus machines. The machine that has the reputation for giving quad aces often. And guess what? Bingo! Quad aces. What's interesting is that I was dealt a full house with three aces and a pair of 9s. Correct strategy is to hold just the aces, which is what I did, and I drew the fourth ace plus another 9. What a nice coincidence, and another nice $4,000 pay. See the photo below.
You'll see I had $250 remaining but that was the last hand I played. You see -- I broke the machine. Literally. In fact, the machine broke when the quad aces came up. I stood there for more than ten minutes waiting for a slot attendant -- and no one came. Then, a manager walked by and said "hello" to me and I said, "gee, it's been about ten minutes and no one came to pay me." He radioed in and found out that my machine went off-line and the "win" did not trigger the response system. A slot attendant was called, and I got the hand pay. Then, since any additional play would not have been recorded on my Total Rewards account, I was asked if I just wanted to "cash out." I did and took home the additional $250.
Yes, I tipped. On the $4,000 pays I tipped $40. On the $2,000 aces I tipped $20.
On the way home I stopped at a Bank of America near my home and deposited the cash in the ATM. It's a secure cash deposit system that they have which immediately verifies and confirms. Yes, the money is there... safe and sound.
Sometimes everything goes right. It's about time.
Several lessons here after such good fortune: first--and this is the same broken record I've been playing for years--more beautiful proof that-EV machines are just as easy to win from as the +EV types. Yes, JUST as easy....and just as easy over any amount of time if you use the proper bankroll and money management along with a structured approach.
Secondly, I have a BofA account that is rarely used these days, but because I've been reading about Alan depositing cash via the ATM's, I tried it myself today, and it's brilliant.
Last but not least, here's why you weakly wasted whatever amount of money on tipping the floor attendants: you were totally encompassed by the "casino winning experience", which meant you were in a euphoric state of mind. This is exactly where the casino and its employees wants you to be, as everyone so wrapped up finds it an even happier experience throwing their money around. At the same time, a controlled gambler wants to stay on cloud 9, so refusing to tip isn't an option. Those intimidating moments are really party killers.

This is a note for David who is a regular reader of our Forum and wants to know why I win so much and so many times? David: I don't win so much and so many times. But on this thread we post our "big casino wins and jackpots." If we had another thread called "times we went broke with our trip bankroll" I would have more things to post and to say.

But while we're talking about what a winner I am, remember when I said I was going to start playing again around Jan. 19th or 20th for the first time since my huge hit? That happened to start on Sunday, and I'm playing an hour or two each day at different casinos until about the 29th. Here's my results so far. Each day except today, I played up to four simple 3-level 25c/50c/$1 ARTT sessions with a win goal of $100 because I know it doesn't make sense to go after the high limit machines constantly after beating the crap out of them. That's what controlled addicts would do. Today I decided to play some games that I really don't play often except when playing out of curiosity, so I "explored" and without a strategy to guide me. Games like UltimateX, spin poker, deuces wild, jokers wild, and 50-play. I didn't do well on all but one of these, but as you can see, it was another stroke of luck that made my day. I was not impressed with any of these games, and I don't know how anyone enjoys any of them, even deuces wild.

Answer: Because few ever listen and put into practice the valuable lessons I teach. Today I really did have a good lucky unusual hit because I had no strategy and I STILL grabbed a royal. Plus did you notice is was one of those AWFUL -EV games again? And do you think I'm going to go out and make stupid games like Ultimate X or DW a habit? Of course not--that's dumbing down a strong player. I was lucky not to leave without any of the $1500 I walked in with.

Aaron, the most important part of all that was how you STILL were able to beat one of those absolutely terrible -EV machine like 9/5 ddbp that's impossible to win on. I don't know what if any strategy you employed, but if you're doing it right then these type trips will become commonplace. If not, then all you'll be doing is paying 10X the value of all those comps and freebies.

I plan on playing up to 3 sessions each day thru the 29th (my wife went back to NC to be with her sick father, otherwise I would have played one day this month only).

Today's win was most satisfying because I had a 5 and drew a kicker. It's the best way to get a quad with the kicker. Again, notice the "awful, unbeatable" 9/5 pay table. Looks like someone keeps forgetting to program these -EV machines to lose. The hot streak continues!

Since Rob's extremely well hung, I would suggest a photo with his schlong in the picture to verify a sense of scale, you know, like archaeologists do when in the field. Except they use a ruler. A schlong would be better.
This might be within the realm of possibility and maybe there's something special about Rob's personal biology (hence, my old thread on "Human Biology and RNGs"). Also, I don't really have a problem with Rob's posting of big wins, since I do not know how much he plays. But I have noticed something that ties in with the biology theory. Rob's biggest wins seem to have some quantum relationship with previous posters having won. For example, Nash posts a 20K win on slots and somehow Rob immediately trumps it with a much bigger win. Rob's previous dynamite win came immediately after I posted that my friend had taken down more than 9K at the craps table at Paris. So there seems to be some time/space/money relationship between previous posters' winnings and Rob nailing a big one. If anyone would care to research this going backwards, there certainly seems to be a correlation, if not a cause-and-effect. It is very weird and defies explanation.
Redietz, in Alan's "congratulatory" post, you'll see my info on that. As I was trying to take a 2nd pic showing just the winning hand, a casino exec who came in to verify said they didn't allow picture- taking in the room where I was playing. No one saw me snap the first which I did right away. So rather than risk some jealous bozo try to cause me trouble at a place I will probably play at again sometime in the future, I blocked it. And in case anyone feels the urge to call around....I could have been anywhere. Healthy, retired folks do get around.

I don't think there is any need for Rob to present any other proof of this big win --- or the others. I've always accepted that he has big wins and I accept that he hits a lot of "jackpot hands." I really think you are playing a lot of long sessions of video poker. A lot of long sessions. You partially admit to this when you told us your wife was out of town.
Now, if you told us that you didn't hit all of these "wonder hands" during half hour casino visits, but actually hit them after four, five, six hours of play... well then they might be just a little bit more realistic in other people's minds.
I don't know of any casino that has ever blocked taking a photo of a winning jackpot on a slot or video poker machine. I know some casinos are touchy about taking photos of table games, and I know most casinos if not all don't want people photographed. But for a casino to block taking a photo of your jackpot? Nah... don't buy it. In fact, most casinos where I have played usually offer to take a photo of the player with the jackpot to post on their website, or Facebook, or use in promotional mailers.Quote:

For others who are interested about the little white square Bubba edited out of his picture: at some machines the date and name of the player appears in the screen as soon as a players club card is inserted. Could it be poor old Bubba has a problem with a date and real name being displayed on a picture of a big win?
Even if the picture is his I still don't believe anything he says. For all we know Robbieboy lost 150.000 dollars before hitting this one. He tells "funky" stories and I value them at no more than that. Happy trailer travels Bubba :)
Redietz, I also noticed the relationship you mentioned. If you posted a win of a million dollars then Robbie would post a 2 million dollar winner soon thereafter. And, he had the perfect chance to backup his winning claims by simply posting an image of the super bowl ticket. Only one reason I can think of why he didn't. Finally, that little white splotch in the big win is a dead giveaway that it was not his. No logical reason to edit the photo.
Once again Singer proves beyond any doubt he is a pathological lair.
