A little hope for the KJ haters.

I'll give you guys a little something to hope for. I tested positive this morning for covid....again. I had covid 17 months ago and had a rather hard time with it. Not so much hard as long. Symptoms just lasted a really long time, like a month, the whole month of April 2020.

So anyway, we had some friends visit for 5 days over the last week for a couple of the music events in town. About 3 days after they arrived, I started to not feel great. Feverish, achy a little chest pressure. Ever since my second heart surgery, I get really scared with any kind of chest pain. But I knew immediately this wasn't heart related, it was lung by location and reminiscent of my lung pressure from last year, just much less severe. So it hasn't gotten worse over the last 3 days or anything and is very mild compared to last year, but I called the doctor and got tested this morning.

I am fully vaccinated and I believe in the science and hopefully will just have these mild symptoms for another day or two protected against severe illness, just the way it is supposed to work. But you all can do you best as far as hoping and praying for the worst. :rolleyes:

Which vaccine? I have never had any symptoms but played poker ~20 times and spent many many hours in casinos since vaxed and I've never had a symptom yet. I don't know if I had it without symptoms or I've just been lucky evading it. Luckily I got the moderna vax.

Pfizer. I know initially they were saying the Pfizer data looked better and now Modena data looks a little better. I am not too worried about that.

I got the vacs in March and beginning of April. So it hasn't even been 6 months. I also happen to believe that protection last much longer than 6 months. Antibodies begin to wane after 6-8 months, but antibodies are only part of the protective equation. There is something called T-cell memory, which can last for years in which T-cells restore memory and can ramp up protection very quickly when a second or new virus is detected. So even after antibodies decrease people are protected for much longer.

They claim people that got the Sars virus back in 2003 are still protected today, 18 years later, even though the antibodies from that natural immunity are long gone. I believe it will be similar with this virus, however I will still get any boosters that come along.

I also shouldn't blame anything on my brother's friends visit. I have been playing blackjack most days since April 1, including some crowded tables on the strip on some weekends. Just seems coincidental that we had company arrive last week (air travel) and 3 days later I started showing symptoms.

KewlJ, if you are out in public and interacting, and the Delta variant has a viral load a thousand times more than the original strain, then eventually you're going to get Covid. It's not like vaccines have 90% protection against Delta. They don't. And after a few months, the percentages crash. The boosters aren't designed for Delta, either. That was one of the arguments at the friction-filled debate about boosters.

I liken it to playing Russian roulette with a 100-chamber handgun. If you're unvaccinated, every interaction with people is like pulling the trigger three times with a large caliber weapon. Every vaccinated person doing the same thing pulls the trigger once with a smaller caliber weapon. Eventually, vaccinated or unvaccinated, you get shot. The larger caliber is more likely to kill you, but the smaller caliber can kill you, too.

The only people I hear about or know getting Covid are vaccinated. Pretty sure the shot takers are gonna continue getting rekt with every variant. That's the problem with ADE. I will stick with the immune system God issued me.....RIP

Redietz, no offense, but you are a bit of a doom-and-gloomer. I trust that you believe some of the doom/gloom comments you make, but I prefer to do my own reading and research and draw my own conclusions. Again, no offense, but I completely reject your 100 chamber handgun theory with unvaccinated having 3 times the risk. I don't know if you are talking about contracting the virus, which many will not even know, their symptoms are so mild, or severe illness/hospitilization. The second is the concern and everything I have seen says vaccinated people's risk of severe illness is way down from unvaccinated people.

And very small sample size but my experience so far bares this out. My symptoms are very mild, slight fever and achy saturday and sunday nights, slight chest, not even pain, just pressure. No trouble breathing or anything and those symptoms have even improved since sunday/monday. If this was 2 years ago before any of us had ever heard of covid, I would have thought nothing of it and wouldn't have even called the doctor. And that is exactly the way things are supposed to work with the vaccines. Protection against severe illness.

Most people may not even know they have covid or a second round of covid. My brother and BF, are both going to get tested tomorrow. Neither has show even a hint of anything, but it wouldn't surprise me if one or both test positive without having any symptoms. Will be interesting to see. Unfortunately, I am a little bit higher risk and this virus has effected me a little more. Robby will chime in about how unhealthy I am....that is why I posted. I wanted to give him a chance to rejoice and celebrate. :cool:

Just curious? You don't or didn't get your kids vaccinated against the various childhood diseases that up until vaccines were discovered used to kill a significant number of children? Well you don't know much about what you had injected into your body if you think this vax compares to the polio, smallpox, et. al. vaccines.

The latest Wisconsin study is showing 1.1 vaccinated per one hundred thousand dying from covid while 11.7 not fully vaccinated people per one hundred thousand dying from covid. Note the "not fully vaccinated."

It seems strange that Wisconsin broke it down as vaccinated vs "not fully vaccinated". :confused: That is lumping the unvaccinated in with the partially vaccinated. I would prefer to see a vaccinated vs (totally) unvaccinated leaving out the partially, because as I understand it, partially vaccinated effects different people differently. Some have more protection that others depending on all sorts of things. For example a partially vaccinated person, meaning had one of the two shots, but who had covid fairly recently (maybe not even knowingly) would have almost the same, maybe even more protection that a twice vaccinated person who never had covid.

Since what we want to know is the difference between fully vaccinated and (totally) unvaccinated, that should have been the parameters. :confused:

But it doesn't matter. There are all sorts of numbers and data and a person can likely find something that supports their own predetermined position if they look hard enough. But in my mind there are numbers that while could be a little different for different states, areas, and sample sizes all basically say the same 2 things and they are

1.) vaccinated people are protected much more than unvaccinated people not necessarily from contracting the virus (that would have been nice), but from severe illness, hospitalizations and death. And that is the name of the game right now.

2.) The locations with the highest numbers of hospitalizations, and deaths are the areas and states that have the lowest vaccination rates right now and it is putting a stress on those states/areas hospital and medical systems. That is just a fact.

People can be weary of the vaccinations, think they weren't tested long enough and worry about what happens down the road, but the undeniable fact is right now people that are getting vaccinated are much more likely to avoid, severe illness, hospitalization and death. That is not a political position, it is a fact.

Thanks OnceDear, that would be great! I'll take all the help I can get. :) But I honestly feel like I was already protected. Unless things change, my symptoms were very, very mild and I honestly don't even feel any symptoms today. If I hadn't gone to the doctor and been tested and feel this good tomorrow I probably would have gone out about my business. But since I did get tested, I will do my part and isolate at home for a few days over the weekend.

So it is expected that the Chi-Comms will release a new deadly virus every 4 or five years? I can believe that. To bad Chi-Comm puppets like Biden and Fauci haven't got a clue.

The American people got a big taste of what it's like to be locked down and we didn't like it. As an open and free society we've always balanced risk against reward. 40K highway fatalities a year could be wiped out with a 20 MPH speed limit. 60K deaths a year to the regular flu could have been wiped out with lockdowns and social distancing. The number of deaths have been acceptable to us in order to remain open and free. Whats different about covid? Nothing but the media attention and the doom and gloomers.

No matter what the doom and gloomers say we've been through the worst of covid and will find the tolerable level of risk versus reward. A certain number of deaths per year will be found tolerable just like in driving and the regular flu.

My brother and my BF were tested today, my brother tested positive and has no symptoms and the BF negative. Both were planning to go about their days as normal, my brother playing blackjack, the BF to his retail job. I had to explain to both that they both are supposed to stay home for a few days so as not to infect others. They both seem oblivious but agreed to humor me, by spending the next 4 days chillin at home playing video games and watching football.

People don't even seem to understand the rules, much less follow them. That is why this virus is going to keep circulating and be a part of our lives forever. :(

My worthless thought is mostly healthy like myself have gotten it and would have no clue unless they are regularly tested, like athletes and some HC workers. And if you are vaccinated and believe it works, I can’t understand those bitching about the non vaccinated. Their decision, nothing more and I totally respect it. In my life I feel it was the best choice but as KJ shows again, it is no guarantee as they guy has now had it twice.

I personally never had a Covid test and never will, nor will I show my papers. Anyone requiring it won’t get my business. It’s the modern racism of the 60’s not allowing blacks to sit at the lunch counter. Instead of the south, it’s liberal shitholes using it to bully others. If they really “cared” about people they would require it to go the grocery store as delivery service and car pickup are common today. But they know they can’t get away with that, so they go with what they can, restaurants and events.

The only thing I would add to your statement is the vaccine doesn't just reduce symptoms, as I am currently experiencing and benefitting from, but almost all data indicates it reduces the chance of severe illness, hospitalization and death. And that is really the name of the game isn't it?

Absolutely, if you believe the reported numbers don’t lie. It’s the unvaccinated getting it far worse and being hospitalized.

As for the vaccinated still spreading it, there is nothing you can do other than locking down 100% and no one is in favor of that. Ok maybe a few crazies still out there. That’s why I believe we all had it or will get it. No way I haven’t been in contact with someone who has had it but with no symptoms how would I know, or should I even care? As I’ve said multiple times I never changed my life, nor will I. I flew 70k miles last year, just hit 80k this year and a plane is the only place I wear a mask. I’ve been to 2 NFL games in 2 cities the first weeks of the city with 70,000+ others with few masks. I go to bars, restaurants, stores, parks etc on a daily basis here in Florida and in mask free states around the country. I’m sure I’ve been in contact with someone who has it. Making my first trip back to Nevada soon since they put the mask mandate back in. I’ll have to see how far I can push carrying a drink in the casinos but I know I’ll probably have to wear one sometime. My local bar in NV was fine under the last mandate if you had a beer playing VP without a mask so I’m assuming it’s the same.

But at what point does one stop living their life? If one stopped doing things they enjoy they lost 18 months of their they will never get back.

Nice of you to think of me again kew but how often you get a cold, a headache, sore balls, or Covid doesn't interest me. You and others are quick to politicize the vaccine as well as babble on about inaccurate statistics pouring out of a fully biased government, but the real reason vaccinated and unvaccinated people get Covid is due to an unhealthy lifestyle. You people INVITE the virus into your bodies. Do you dine out, and if so do you sanitize your hands after going thru the menus, using the salt and pepper shakers etc.? If you get water or any drink, do you always use unopened straws or carefully wipe the inside and outside rims first? When you gas your vehicle, do you always use a paper towel so as not to touch any part of the handle? It's all about being and staying aware of what you touch and if your hands go around your face. And people with weakened immune systems are very susceptible to just about any virus.

As I've said, my wife and I travel and go to restaurants, bars, casinos and other gatherings in a big way, and we've had no problems with this virus at all. I'm not above agreeing with max on this, because I too trust what my body already has in the way of warding off these things. Similarly, the ONLY people I know who are falling ill to Covid are fully vaccinated. Well Robert, I thank you for the "get well soon" even as insincere as I suspect it is. Wiping down utensils and menus and salt and pepper shakers, good advice as that is, can I ask you do you wipe down your food? :rolleyes: I mean if the person preparing your food has covid, wiping down utensils isn't going to prevent much. Changing gears, there is something I want to say publicly about and to someone. I received a very nice email from Eliot (teliot) Jacobson this evening wishing me well. Getting to know Eliot just a very little bit from just a very few private exchanges, it has become clear to me that he is a very decent person. I know he does a lot of volunteer work that he doesn't talk about and he just seems like a good guy.

I have been very hard on Eliot for a number of years, mostly running with things I had heard and opinions of others. I tend to draw lines in the sand when it comes to APing of 'us' vs 'them'. I placed Eliot in the 'them' without bothering to look into it for myself and like I said, was pretty hard on him with all the "traitor" comments. So I do want to apologize publicly to Eliot. Even if he chose to consult and work with the casino industry at times, and I am not saying he did or didn't, so what? I have a very good friend that works as a pit manager at a fairly high level at a strip casino. People are people. And it has become clear to me Eliot is a pretty good egg.

My wife's father passed away in August 2020. He was 93 years old and he had been deteriorating with Alzheimer's. While in hospice he suddenly tested positive for Covid. He died as expected. His death certificate says: Cause of Death: COVID. We tried to get it changed to the reason he was put into hospice--Alzheimer's--but the liberal machine went bonkers over his family's efforts. We walked away from it because it wasn't worth the time, which is exactly how they want you to see it.

You certainly have never been to S. Korea or Australia, so I'll splain a little something to you. We highly inflate our numbers here solely for political purposes; those countries do not. They also only have a couple of large cities each, and within those cities there are no comparable slum areas like we have in every one of our bigger cities. Here, those cities are solidly run and controlled by democrats, and Covid is rampant among their slums, their homeless, their drug users, and overall among those who live like rats in their numerous projects etc.

Well we have a fairly effective vaccine for once and this is the first post-vaccine wave and likely last before it settles out. That assumes there isn't some mutation that amps up the strength of this thing another notch. Things look pretty good to me. It is already starting to cool off substantially.

The problem with lockdowns is this thing spreads to other mammals. EVEN if we managed to lock down the world it seems likely it would be reintroduced into the human population but possibly it could be controlled? Anyway, just my 3 bit speculation.

One of my Bosses said something like,"Covid should have been nipped in the bud when it was FIRST circulating China like VERY early January when it broke out in China and said she felt our Government failed us. She said that China should have basically been closed off(Think of the Dome in Simpsons Movie) when they noticed Multiple people in China were getting sick with some new Disease.

Perhaps one could look at it this way. We could sit back and do nothing hoping for herd immunity. Over the weekend I was talking on the phone to a friend from Phila (suburbs). She had a valve replacement, similar but a little different than mine, 15 years ago when I lived in Phila. So last week she was having severe chest pains, and went to the hospital. Despite that the Phila region as a whole has a lot of hospitals and a lot of hospital beds and that her doctor had called ahead making arrangements for her to be admitted for tests, when she got to the hospital there was no place to put her. She spent the night on a stretcher in the hall, outside the emergency room until a bed became available during the night.

So that is the thing most concerning. What is someone in your family has a stroke, or heart attack, or falls and breaks a hip, or your child cuts himself and gets seriously injured, and you get to the hospital and there are no beds available and no staff available to treat you or your family member, because of the choices these people made, which is their right.

At that point those choices are effecting others and they should be yanked out of that bed, have the machines keeping them alive turned off and that space given to other. THAT should be the consequence of their choice and right to put others in jeopardy.

You make a fair point about the 300 lber that shows up at the hospital in diabetic shock or with his arteries clogged from a lifetime of MDonalds food. There should be some personal responsibility. And if some car accident victims comes in they should get priority. I'll go along with that 100%.

You make less of a fair point about some other things, one of them being my multiple covids. Yes both I and my brother have contracted covid twice now. People are going to keep getting it. If would have been great if the vaccines stopped people from catching it or catching it a second time. But from the start, that was not what was said. What was said was people would get less severely sick, with less hospitalizations and less death. The numbers bare that out just as my and my own experiences bares that out. I had very mild symptoms, slight fever and a little achy for a couple days, compared to a month long illness and trouble breathing nd severe fatigue the first time around. Night and day and the vaccine worked just as it was supposed to. You do know the flu vaccine doesn't stop people from getting the flu right. Just less severe case. Exactly like the covid vaccine is doing.

Side effects? Sure there are a small number of side effects from any kind of medication. A small number of clotting problems, strokes and heart attacks. Read the small print or listen to the disclaimer on any commercial for any medication. There is a small risk of an adverse reaction for a very minutely small number of people. The benefits out weight the risks. and that is what life is about.

So hell yeah, sign me up for the booster in about 2 weeks. :cool:

Here's another question for you Max. Not wishing anything bad on you but supposes you are diagnosed with some type of cancer, let's say stage 1 or stage 2 colon cancer which is highly treatable. Are you going to pass on the science and forgo the treatment and say, "let's just let God handle it"?

Science has shown that a previous infection is better than the vax. The problem is for every one of those people, there is likely a guy who has never caught it and is still refusing to get the stupid vax. Natural immunity is better than the vaxx but the problem is you have to get covid in order to get the natural immunity. So lots of unvaxxed people will be immune to covid....but will also be dead. Damn sure can't get it again when you're dead.

You make less of a fair point about some other things, one of them being my multiple covids. Yes both I and my brother have contracted covid twice now. People are going to keep getting it. If would have been great if the vaccines stopped people from catching it or catching it a second time. But from the start, that was not what was said. What was said was people would get less severely sick, with less hospitalizations and less death. The numbers bare that out just as my and my own experiences bares that out. I had very mild symptoms, slight fever and a little achy for a couple days, compared to a month long illness and trouble breathing nd severe fatigue the first time around. Night and day and the vaccine worked just as it was supposed to. You do know the flu vaccine doesn't stop people from getting the flu right. Just less severe case. Exactly like the covid vaccine is doing.

Side effects? Sure there are a small number of side effects from any kind of medication. A small number of clotting problems, strokes and heart attacks. Read the small print or listen to the disclaimer on any commercial for any medication. There is a small risk of an adverse reaction for a very minutely small number of people. The benefits out weight the risks. and that is what life is about.

So hell yeah, sign me up for the booster in about 2 weeks. :cool:

KJ, here is wishing you a speedy recovery. I'm kind of surprised you got covid again after having it once and then being vaccinated. You should have double protection. Now you will have triple protection.

My son and his wife got the Pfizer vaccine back in March or April. However, they did not get their 13 year old kid vaccinated so about a couple of weeks ago they got a letter from the school saying his daughter was exposed at school. Sure enough, they got her tested and she tested positive for covid and then she gave covid to the entire family even though my son and wife were vaccinated. My son actually got the covid pretty bad. He actually missed work for 4 days (he works from home remotely), but didn't have to go to the hospital.

I told my son this past summer to get his daughter vaccinated. Oh no, kids to get sick from covid he said. He was so brain washed by Trump and the GOP that he didn't listen to the science. If he wasn't vaccinated he properly would of gotten it real bad. As it was I had to encourage him to get the vaccine for himself and wife.

Thanks MWP. Fully recovered. Really didn't get sick at all. Very mild symptoms for a couple days. If it was a couple years ago, I would have just assumed a bit of a cold or something for a day or two.

Anyway, MWP, you do know that the vaccine doesn't stop you from getting covid or getting it a second time right? Just protects you from severe illness and hospitalization. I live with my brother and BF. The BF works a retail job and me and my brother circulate in casinos 5 days a week. You put yourself in those situations around a lot of people and you might just catch it even a second time. The vaccines did just what they were supposed to as my brother had no real symptoms and mine were very mild for a day or two.

I don't want to get into a debate with these anti-vac guys about the Jesus juice, but I am very pleased with my decisions and the protection I got.
