Redietz, I don't focus on my sexuality. It is who I am and I will never hide from that and it is part of my pre-card counter story, because having a jackass for a stepfather that kicked me out of the house while still in high school led me to Philadelphia for 8 years, where I discovered and got into card counting. Other than that, I don't view it as part of the story.
I am aware that some of the hate directed at me for years is because of that issue including the two people you mentioned Singer and Mdawg, who are both huge homophobic haters. Really, I view that as their problem not mine.
There was a time before my brother graduated and moved in that I though My "non-traditional" Las Vegas family made up of 3 gay guys added to the uniqueness. My partner, who I was married to was 20+ years my senior and when I met him a losing -EV video poker player himself. That we were able to turn him around (insert joke here) and make him into a +EV player, is kind of an amazing thing I think. I am sure he cheated at times when handling our machine play, but he did real well in that -EV to +EV transformation.
The third guy, a poker player, a very typical poker player existence. He was always one good win away from having the bankroll to make some real money. And there was always some almost impossible bad beat that had brought him down. Unfortunately, after a number of years I had to cut him loose. I couldn't enable his going no where poker "career" forever and when my brother moved in, I didn't want this guy's career/existence influencing him.
The current dynamic, with my brother (a very straight guy) and I sharing a condo, both playing blackjack for a living, isn't quite so dynamic and unique (except in the demented mind of a few sick and hateful dudes).
