In my experience, lying is usually done for a self-boosting reason. Telling the truth, not so much.

Personally, I've made it 45 years without exaggerating a single personal gambling claim or presenting out-of-context data or bullshitting people.

Whether anyone sucks, is mediocre, or a stellar savant is pretty much beside the point. The truth is the truth. Or as they say, the truth is its own defense.
