I remember when a friend and I were sitting in a restaurant and we were approached by two kids who were starting for the local high school basketball team. He had coached them in seventh and eighth grade. They asked him if he learned to play basketball yet. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his paycheck. He offered for them to play the two of us, two-on-two. They put up ten bucks each. He put up his whole paycheck. They were 6'2" and 6'4". We were 5'9" and 5'11".
So he got use of the gym and we played them in front of people. The fact that they put up $10 each versus his two-week paycheck made it even more humiliating when we hammered them.
The moral of the story. Consider giving mickey some odds so he has to take the bet. Then bury him. It's a more meaningful lesson.
