Boyd implemented some adverse changes, dating back to late 2018. VP now requires double coin-in (0.05% base), and tier points are keyed to theo. Initially both Canneries stayed un-consolidated, but then in 2020, Eastside closed permanently, while original Cannery's slot club was folded into the Oh Brother ship.

Also in 2020, promos were slashed.

Palms, meanwhile, was assimilated into Stations, but now the California Indians are in control. I've heard decent feedback on comps and promos, but reported best game is only Bonus Poker. The good news there is it's available in multi-line.

The money is just not there in video poker these days compared to advantage slots. Even Bob Dancer has made the switch. He's covered it somewhat in his LVA blog. He works mid-strip. He runs a slot route on cruises. He hasn't totally quit video poker but plays it much less these days.

Advantage slot play doesn't always generate comp. That's because your wager is controlled by the amount of action you run. Let's say one day you find a 20% advantage that has $400 in expectation sitting there. That's just a $2000 wager. Doesn't generate much comp. So what should you do? I personally take the $400 and forego the comp.

I got a little bit of an insider tip on which downtown property is likely to generate most bang for the buck right now. Also saw the current Four Queens promo, which isn't bad, but if I play there, it'll be mainly at 2 AM, because the locals there drive me crazy with their, for lack of a better word, superstitions putting money in, money out, tickets in, tickets out. All in tight quarters. When you're flanked by two people doing that, well, it ain't worth it.

I realize South Point has no promos this month, but I'll put in a few hours there just so they know I'm still alive. Heading there in a couple of hours. South Point, by the way, has been known to offer a kind of residency for race and sports players who churn certain amounts that are not outrageous.

Made one medium-sized future wager thus far. Had to do some evaluations I was not planning on doing, but the opportunity was there, so what the hell. I wasn't going to get better numbers, which I knew.

The last incarnation of Love was great. I hope the show finds a home. I would hate to think they would completely shelve it.

Could you please link to where I said the virus traveled though pipes and plumbing because I don't remember sating or even thinking that a possibility.

When an outbreak occurred at the complex I live, which was covered on the news at the time, I did briefly have an somewhat irrational thought of wondering if the virus could somehow transmit through walls or under doors. But that is only because we were at the time dealing ng with an unknown but infectious virus and people in multiple units, that had no real contact with each other contracted covid.

In hindsight, that was a bit of paranoia. But the fact is that living in a multi-unit environment like condos or apartments, you have shared common areas where a virus can be easily transmitted. The mailroom, lobby, elevator, particularly elevation buttons, the main front door handle.

I don't apologize for not knowing and/or being cautious and concerned

As for me contracting covid twice, over a year apart: I lived in a multi-unit buildings ng that experienced an outbreak, as well as continued to spend a good deal of time in the casino environment, as that is what I do for a living, so not really all that surprising.

Not suggesting that anyone take up slot hustling. Everyone has a choice and not everyone has the knowledge. My personal preference is to make $150 an hour working advantage slots instead of working room/meal comp that might be worth $15 an hour. If the slot play generates any comp, fine, I'll take it. But if it doesn't I'll still take the money and pay for the room/meals. Working for room/meal comp is working for peanuts.

The entire point, by the way, of me doing any of this, was to provide (with minimal time/effort) some rooms for off-season scouting and for family and friends, and a few meals for me. I was always going to spend some time at Boyd anyway, due to their contests, and I was always going to spend some time at the Palms because they had end-of-bell curve odds and a generous sports comp rate.

Originally in the 80's and early 90's, sports betting comps were quite good and the same as race comps. Then accountants stepped in and reduced sports comps to a fraction of race comps, and it got worse year to year until you needed to bet 20K (that day) to get something like lunch at the Wynn. Once upon a time, sports bettors, especially at places like the Stardust or Binions, could also get discretionary comps just for asking, if they knew your face. Then discretionary comps started getting squeezed.

I never realized my rating at the Palms entitled me to free entry to the clubs. I never even bothered to visit them, which is sad, in retrospect.

Just so you know - I was not attempting to interact with you. I'm curious what Mickey thinks about machine AP play. He is literally an OG of that stuff.

Natural machine APs really are "math guys" in that part of the draw to the whole thing is trying to crack the machine's internal workings. The more you understand - the better your estimation of +EV entry points will be.

Then of course there are the hoards of people who were just given a number. There is little dynamic so anyone can just take notes of entry points and they're a pro. The barrier to entry is far lower to entry than pro-sports betting or likely any other form of gambling. Especially the bankroll requirement.

I see nothing wrong with what Red is doing. Getting n some play to generate comps and rooms for future use. It would be ideal if that play in itself could be +EV, but even if slightly -EV, I from and that acceptable.

You just have to be careful, as Mickey said not to end up spending way more to get those comps than they are worth. I did that early on in my career before I moved to Vegas. It was common knowledge that 4 hours of blackjack play would get a comped roomon the strip at the time. But 4 hours play, playing my regular spread would probably get me backed off. So I toned down my spread which reduced my hourly EV by half. End result was that $29 room at harrahs or Flamingo probably cost me $200 in reduced EV. Would have been so much better to just play my regular spread and pay for the room, which I did from that point on.

Well .. I'm not sure what to say here but people are doubters and you will forever have to deal with that. They hate to see you win. Yea, we understand.

Regardless, there are many out there who are fans. We want to see the play backed up by math. Not this made up Winnebago wins. So you do what you do Kewl.
