What I did was NOT theft. The Jack Daniels gift set and the Jim Beam gift set were legitimately mine when I returned them for store credit.

Karen, it WAS theft as you got the set at a casino: you did not buy the item at the store you did the" return" at.

Here is the relevant Florida statute on theft:

812.014 Theft.—
(1) A person commits theft if he or she knowingly obtains or uses, or endeavors to obtain or to use, the property of another with intent to, either temporarily or permanently:
(a) Deprive the other person of a right to the property or a benefit from the property.
(b) Appropriate the property to his or her own use or to the use of any person not entitled to the use of the property.

In your case the theft was of money from the store you exchanged the item at, as you were not entitled to the use of the cash as you didn't buy the set there; the store had the right to keep the money and only give it to someone who was returning an item sold to them by the store.

If you don't believe me then I suggest you go to the store you exchanged the set at and ask their Loss Control / anti-theft dept. for their thoughts on the subject, and please let us know what they tell you.

But you won't do this as it will expose you to possible legal jeopardy and you know in your heart that what you did was WRONG.

The stores in question wasn't Walgreens. At Walgreens you need an ID to do a return without a receipt or have the Cashier do a Sales lookup that proves you bought the items that are being returned. The stores I did the returns at don't require an ID/Sales lookup for store credit.

I own a business. I accept returns and I'm very strict about what I even take back. If you don't have a recent purchase of that existing item from my store I'm not taking it as a return. Period.

Bull shit.... it was a gift set you said. Most casino buy items and give away items that they purchase in bulk. Second since alcohol is an age restricted product there is no way they allowed you to return the item without id. Not to mention you aren't a treasured member anyway. This is so unbelievable. You make up words . No casino in your state has a card level of treasured
