I don't know what your point is, but that's a weird take.

His point may be that to be a truly successful professional sports bettor one must network with myriad sources of intormation and take advantage of all existing technologies, especially computer based, i.e.: "successful sports and horse bettors use large quantitative models and/or have access to off-market lines."

The implication may be that redietz lacked the ability to do this then and now.
