I stay at the Plaza (at least for a night) every other trip or so. That room always annoyed me because the Plaza has had some halfway decent video poker and decent offers, but that room to me was a waste of space and brought in people who don't really care if they win or lose. It went against the whole vibe of the place as a retro but somewhat serious gambling environment. You have Oscar's upstairs and the the good Happy Hour meal discounts in the lounge outside Oscar's, so some internet youngster hyping bad gambling downstairs always seemed off to me.
As you said, the branding clashed. And in a pretty obvious fashion. It was jarring and tonally inconsistent.
