Thread: MGM Vegas resorts now charging $25 to get plates and napkins with room service

Wouldn't an extreme cheapskate pick someplace to stay off-Strip?
I tell you it’s wonderful to be here, man. I don’t give a damn who wins or loses. It’s just wonderful to be here with you people.

Karen, I think you indirectly hit on a way to fund your casino gambling if you ever make it to sin city.

Find a spot on the a sky bridge on the strip, say the one between MGM and NYNY.

Sell paper plates and plastic cutlery to those extreme cheapskates who'd prefer to buy their own: save them the walk to CVS by having it available almost at their finger tips.

As a side hustle you can always offer crotch shots to conventioneers and Arabs in sin city to sin; I'd suggest you offer to blow them but hey, you say you're asexual: but maybe you could still offer them a hand job?

I mean, an autistic gamblin' ghetto girl's gotta do and that begging shtick of yours would go over in LV like a lead balloon.

Hey I stayed at a Day's Inn and kind of liked it. I got free bowls and silverware from the lobby and I paid $150 a night staying 5 miles from a casino I didn't care about being on vacation. Hotels are supposed to have guests and mine was a Day's in Hotel.

Not Vegas. Vegas just has too many people.

As long as the foreigners keep flocking to the LV Strip, the foolish fees will keep being created and increased. Any American who doesn't get full RFB at these places and STILL can't stop coming, is as dumb as a bag of sand.

Awhile back LV had a very hot, profitable club scene on the strip, not quite rivaling Ibiza but close.

How are things these days for the clubbers?

Gee I must have missed the show where people ordering room service on the strip left the casino to walk down the strip to buy utensils and plates at CVS for room service to use to plate and deliver their hideously overpriced meal.

Can you find it on YouTube and post a link?

That way I too can save a couple of dollars...if I ever return to sin city, which is increasingly unlikely given how it is morphing.
You almost sound as if you don’t believe that someone who decides to order expensive room service because they want to relax in their room & have their meal brought up to them to avoid the hustle & bustle of going out to eat, with the walking around, and the getting dressed & the waiting at the restaurant wouldn’t also be willing to get dressed, walk far away around the crowded strip to wait in line at a store to buy some plates to lug back up to the room to save a few bucks?

Maybe they don’t come as much at home as they do in Las Vegas.

    LOL. Or as often.

If someone wants to charge you $25 for utensils, I have a solution. Just go out in the hall, find a nice spot on the floor in full view of a security camera, and sit down with your plate of food and start eating without using your hands. Wait to take really big mouthfuls until some well-dressed folks are walking by. Wipe your chin on the corridor rug.

Eventually someone will bring you free utensils.

Reminds me of my old high school cross-country team eating at the Mountain City Diner after a nice 7 AM six-mile run. We were sweat-soaked teens in shorts and T-shirts, so we made sure to cap our morning meal with slices of lemon meringue pie, which we ate without using our hands. Good capper to a public meal. Endeared the North Schuylkill cross-country team to the other patrons.

Do what I do when I hed off for an overnight jaunt to Chinook Winds casino: pack a few paper plates, napkins and plastic cutlery in my overnight bag.

Typically I have dinner away from the casino, eat moderately and bring left overs back and pop them in the refrigerator.

Later in the evening I nuke the leftovers in the room and use the plates etc. to serve / consume them.

Yes, I laughed at that, too.

Hotels love using fake environmentalism to charge/save money.

Reminds me of the signs in the room asking you to reuse your towels several times, in order to save wildlife from all the detergent runoff. These messages are usually on some kind of paper sign with pictures of cute bunnies or dolphins.

My response: Pass some of the savings along to me, and I'll be glad to reuse the towel "to save the environment". Otherwise fuck you.

Anyway the real problem here is that you don't necessarily remember being charged high food prices on your vacation, but something like a $25 silverware fee sticks in your head, because it's just so out of the norm and obnoxious.

That's why this is so dumb.

The last thing you want is for the tourists to refuse to come back to lose their money gambling because they remember being angry at a $25 silverware fee.

Vegas got away with the resort and parking fees, so now they think they can just put fees wherever they want, and nothing will happen.

Wasn't there a bill being floated last year or so which would prohibit all the additional fees, including resort fees and parking fees? Must have died with a new administration and/or congress.

No, it just required to disclose them up front when displaying a price, and only mandatory fees (such as resort fees).

No disclosure is required for fees for optional services such as parking, room service, etc.

Couldn't you just order the meal in the restaurant and say something like,"You know what? I changed my mind. Can I have the meal to go instead? And then take the food up to your room instead? I didn't see anything like,"Food is not allowed to be carried out of restaurant," thing. A guy said he was at an all you can eat breakfast and after breakfast, he left with a banana in his hand and Security nearly tackled him and then yelled at him for leaving the buffet with the banana..

But I'm pretty sure you can just ask for to go plates and take that up to your room and have free plates, napkins, and silverware.

Karen, haven't you ever gotten buzzed while gambling and then returned to your room at the casino to have sex to take advantage of the gambling high? Then after building the beast with two backs haven't you ordered strawberries, cream and champagne from room service so as not to spoil the moment?

    Of course you haven't, you're a ghetto dwelling asexual...what am I saying?

BTW, there's a thing called "Fast Food" today where they actually let you buy it there and leave without being tackled by burly security guards: hell, there's even a Church's Chicken near you.

I know you're insulting me, but I REALLY think the Security guards overreacted to a banana being taken out of the dining room after the guest was done with his buffet. It wasn't like it was a cash box or anything like that.

Holy shit, I looked up,"Can you leave a buffet with a banana?

    And got these results.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=can+...obile&ie=UTF-8

I stand corrected. Apparently, leaving a buffet with a banana is a huge no no.

No, I'm trying to EDUCATE you as to how the world works.

Buffets do NOT allow patrons to leave with food, unless it is a box of take out without first being seated.

There are no exceptions for bananas, nor olives, nor pats of butter.

What, you think it's OK for you to stuff a few rolls into that hideous handbag after dining at Circus Circus buffet?

Today it's rolls, tomorrow you'll pilfer fried chicken and then steak, crab legs and eclairs.

Buffets and AYCE places like Korean barbecue simply have to enforce the rule against carrying anything out, so as to prevent abuse. Can't stop a flood unless you stop any potential leak with a consistent even handed policy.

It's actually especially evident why, at a Korean Barbecue, otherwise what's to stop people from ordering tons of extra raw meat at the end of the meal and just carrying it out in ice chests.

One man desperate for a bit of fuel is pathetic. Five million people desperate for fuel will destroy a city.
