<Wizard:> I'm going to close this thread for getting politically overcharged. I will welcome Bill Ryan to take up the topic of his new hobby in a blog post, which are not monitored as closely.

Only if you're comparing it to your daily college sports earnings.

$25-$65 per day is what they get paid. Don't forget the meal...

LOL. How's the wife treating you, Axel?

What I especially love is how the LVA highlights every modest meal, hotel discount, and coupon-running angle in the city, and has featured them for decades, but somehow the old Axelwolf doesn't shower that publication with digs. Why is that, do you think? I mean, if Axel finds my standard of living pathetic, I'm sure he has much to say about the pathetic pennyante aide provided by Mr. Flowers and his publication.

    Ain't that right, Axel?
Great, thanks for asking. I guess a better question would be, how am I treating her? She just got annoyed at me for using 4 new washcloths to clean chainsaws and Bar Oil. Her, "You just grabbed brand new washcloths when there are old ones sitting right there."

I don't find your standard of living pathetic, as I too don't see anything wrong with being frugal and living in a way that makes you happy.

I do find your standard of earnings pathetic. Especially for a college football betting Guru, even back in 1995, $25 to $65 a day would be pathetic. I like how you round up by about $70 to defend your pathetic standard of earnings. As I disagree that $65 would be worth around $200 a day, I think it would be worth more like $130 nowadays. I'll let the economist specialist here post their arguments regarding that aspect.

I highly doubt anyone was getting paid $65 a day in 1995 for jury duty, at least not in the jurisdictions you are talking about. I'm thinking it's more like $40 tops.

I don't normally read any of that bullshit. I didn't even know there was an LVA Highlights. I do know, and I have read bits and pieces of the Las Vegas Advisor, but it's fairly rare, usually only if something points out something specific, or there's a particular Hot Topic I happen to be interested in.

I don't read or follow Frugal this or Frugal that; I don't follow any of that stuff. I don't read gambling books, and I rarely listen to any of the gambling podcasts.

Are there any good gambling coupons out there nowadays? I've run many thousands of coupons. There certainly isn't anything wrong with that as long as they are worthwhile. I know Anthony Curtis was pissed at me and a few others for years for ruining all his juicy gambling coupons. Perhaps I'll elaborate on that later but it's time to go now since my wife just made me breakfast.

Gordon has an idea that Bill Ryan's posts and threads be approved by an Admin before being visible to the forum. I had a VERY similar idea years ago when a certain Poster made a horrific, horrifying, scary, frightening, shocking, creepy, disturbing, concerning thread years ago. I suggested that that Poster's threads and posts be approved by an Admin before being visible to the forum moving forward. My idea was ignored.

What was the horrific, horrifying, scary, frightening, shocking, creepy, disturbing, concerning thread about?

You can’t sell it that hard and then not say what it was about

They probably didn’t want to censor that type of stuff so that the thought police could track that poster in case he either carried out on his threats or appeared to be close to actually carrying them out.

Conversely, AP’s were pissed at Curtis for all the plays he outed in his rag.

I don't think he "outed" many plays. He mentioned things like the Palms FPDW with its ongoing meter jackpot and the Westward Ho with its 9/6 progressive, and the occasional positive EV bingo games, but he really didn't report or expose much that wasn't common knowledge if you lived in LV. I guess his reporting on it may have put that $1 shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate in the endangered category, but in general he wasn't outing much, with the possible exception of the good coupons, which eventually led to coupon extinction due to counterfeiters.

Curtis published every play he could find. Said his readers deserved it. He would walk up to any AP he knew when he seen them on something and ask them what they were doing. AP’s learned to keep their mouths shut when he was around. Lots of complaints about Curtis by AP’s.

For someone that doesn’t like people interjecting in something “they dont know anything about” the ditz sure doesnt mind doing it.

PS ditzy, do you know the prime reason Dancer may retire after 2025?

Thin edge video poker. To many losing sessions.

Do you know why slot AP’s will keep going, at least the best ones?

Big Edges. Not many losing sessions. Now you know.

I don't think it was due to counterfeiters. While there were some counterfeits, it paled in comparison to some APs who were running ungodly amounts of coupons. I was one of those APs. Sometimes I would run hundreds of a particular coupon at just one casino. I got off as much as 35+ $50, your first card is an Ace coupon in one day. Each coupon is worth at least $25 with very little variance.

There were coupons worth $100, $200, $500, and even up to $5k each. Obviously, the 5k ones didn't last long. Some of the $200 VP coupons would have a measly $20 variance, and you could get off 3 -5 in a day. More iwhen you paied someome to play for you.

Whenever someome got caught running a crap ton of coupons, the casinos would be scratching their heads as to how someome could obtain so many coupons, and they sometimes would assume they were counterfeits.

I checked the mail daily, checked the newspaper daily, and checked all the new magazine publications regularly for new juicy gambling coupons. Once I found somthing, I would go on the hunt. I had multiple routes(depending on what locations they were getting sent to) where I would check apartment complex mailrooms for abandoned coupon booklets. I had bins I would put inside the mailrooms, seeding them with the coupon on the locations they were sending them too) on books along with a sign asking people to recycle them there. I would go around the next day and collect them. Sometimes I would use trash cans for outside mailboxes.

I know someone who had gaming control called on him for running "counterfit" Valpack coupons(A mailed coupon packet inside blue envelopes that had 25 to 50 diffrent local buissness coupons) I don't know if it was a scare tactic or what the deal was, but gaming was pulling some BS by interrogating him and telling him they know they are 100% counterfeit and wanted to know his source. I guess they said they were letting him go, but they would be following up.

He called me all paranoid, thinking they were going to railroad and arrest him. I asked him if he still had the Valpaks? He said, "yes" I suggested, short of contacting an attorney(his best option), if it comes down to it just tell them the truth where and how you got them, see if they will use some logic by showing them all the Valpack coupons and packs and ask them if it would make sense to counterfit all the worthless coupons and envolopes as well.

I wouldn't. But I read every line of every LVA multiple times since its inception until maybe 10 years ago. For the last 10 years, I have still read almost every line, but not in a timely and repeat manner. Very rarely did the LVA "out" a play in the sense that they were exposing some big secret. The LVA simply promulgated info that the casinos with the play wanted out in public space. In that sense, the LVA was acting as a PR billboard for casinos.

I read literally everything in every issue of the LVA multiple times. Very rarely, maybe a few times a year, was some Las Vegas angle or play reported in LVA of which I was unaware. I actually benefitted more financially from the LVA food and restaurant reportage than from their outing any gambling plays.

And since I'm not an "AP," if I knew about a play or promotion, then by definition it was "common knowledge." I didn't discuss anything with anybody in LV, but I was boots on the LV streets for a hundred days a year for decades. I didn't socialize or network much if at all. I kept almost completely to myself. If I knew about a play, then it was there to be seen; it was a common-knowledge play.

Those discovery or travel channel shows got a lot of interest in casino gambling. Ultimately they were good for APs.

Yeah, the casinos wanted Curtis to publish the advantage plays in their joints. Thats a good one, ditz. You had no clue. You wouldnt know a good promotion if it bit you in the ass.

Yeah, the casinos wanted Curtis to publish the advantage plays in their joints. Thats a good one, ditz. You had no clue. You wouldnt know a good promotion if it bit you in the ass.

On the other hand, what the resident Montana casino expert suggests is that casinos provided coupons to the Advisor that were actually advantage plays because they did NOT want AC to publish advantage plays. And furthermore, AC, who depended on casinos for those coupons that were the main Advisor selling point, wanted to piss casinos off by publishing secret advantage plays in the Advisor.

In other words, mickey, do you ever actually think before you type?

Here's a suggestion. Instead of reflexively deciding to argue with whatever I write, pause, think for 30 seconds, then figure out if maybe I'm halfway correct.

Or wait, I can make it easy for you. Just do not respond because you rarely make any sense.

And as far as good promotions go, I really don't care if I could recognize any or not outside of sports-related ones. I never heard any tales of you murdering Monday Night football promos in LV, which I did almost every week. I probably knew the ins and outs more than AC, and that's all I really cared about.

And if you want to bite my ass, just say so. I'm not gay, as the shirt says, but $20 is $20.

Who says I can't find good "AP" opportunities (that's "Ass Promos" for those not in the know).
