There was a short National Review piece speculating that they want to keep the documents relating to Epstein secret to protect sources and methods, because either the CIA or allied agencies (e.g. Mossad or MI6) were using Epstein as a blackmail agent.
Seems plausible enough but I haven't seen a hint of it from any actual source. Couldn't the Republicans hint at this?
As far as the libel suit as far as I understand it Trump can't win on the merits even under the worst realistic outcome for the WSJ (that the letter or whatever it is was a forgery) because of the requirements of malice and knowledge. So maybe it's an attempt to get the WSJ to back down for fear of extrajudicial punishments (he's already excluded the WSJ from one of the press pools over this).
This stuff is so easy even a misguided Trump-hater can see it. The Epstein nonsense is being kept alive by the media just to take the spotlight off of all the Trump wins. There's a very small minority of his MAGA base that really do want to know if there's really more to the story, but the bottom line is it's NOTHING compared to the Obama treason they're looking into.
